So grab yourself a chair, a log, a patch of ground around our virtual campfire and let's get ready. As we delve into this week's episode of the podcast. Hey everybody, welcome back to the podcast. Thank you so much for tuning in and hey, if you like what you hear, if you get something out of it, would you do me a small favor? Leave us a positive rating and review and share us with your friends, okay? Tell your neighbors, tell your pets, tell your family. about Weisslots, let's get right into the podcast today, shall we? You know, starting over can feel terrifying. I've done it many times in my life. Whether it's a career shift, ending relationships, or a personal reset. But we're going to gather around the virtual campfire today, and we're going to explore how to reframe clean slates, release our past baggage, and find peace. And beginning again. Let's do it, shall we? Let's get into it. All right. Pull up a spot around our virtual campfire today. And just pause. Breathe. Take a few nice, deep, slow breaths. Now, we're talking about something we all face, yet often dread. And I'm right there in it with you. Starting over. Whether you're rebuilding after a setback, starting a new chapter, or simply resetting your daily life, fresh starts can feel real heavy. But as we watch these flames recreate themselves in our virtual campfire here, just imagine that. Let's talk about the quiet power of beginning again. Why is starting over so scary? Well, you know, usually it's because we feel like we're losing ground. We tell ourselves, I spent years on this path or I've spent so much time and put so much effort into this situation or this job or this relationship or this task. And now I have to go back to square one. We view a pivot or a reset as a failure rather than growth. We cling to broken patterns, unfulfilling jobs, or drained relationships simply because, well, we already have invested so much time into them. So we cling and hold on to these things. But here's the truth. Here's the hard truth. And this is what I've discovered. You never really truly start from scratch. You start from experience. Think of that. Yeah, you start from experience. So, take that. You know, think about this. Think about this for just a second. When a campfire burns down, you don't throw away the ash and stone. Do you? No, you build a new fire right on top of the other one. The sturdy foundation that's left behind. Well, think about this. Every past mistake, every detour, every hard season is material you bring with you into the next chapter. Right? Makes sense, doesn't it? So it's not a failure. Think of it as a lesson. Think of it as education. Think of it as an experience. And when you push forward, you know more now than you did then. Isn't that amazing? Think about that. Don't view it as a failure. You never really fail unless you quit. Hey, VoiceLots listeners. Are you looking for a simple way to level up your focus and energy? There you can listen to each and every episode of the podcast and leave feedback and everything. It's all waiting for you at WeissThoughts.com. All right. All right. Before we went over to the break and we skipped on into that, we were talking about why, okay, why we fear the art of starting over. And we're talking about starting over and embracing fresh beginnings. And why it's so scary. And believe me, I hear you. Nobody likes to, you know, we all love comfortability. All right. We all dig comfortability. And I'm right there with you, man. I mean, I like the same cup of coffee pretty much. I like a certain amount of teas. I like a certain routine. However, have you ever heard the expression that variety is the spice of life? I'm sure you've heard that, haven't you? Come on. I know I have many times. I've heard it in movies, seen it in literature. Everything. And think about that. If every day was programmed and you knew exactly what was going to happen every minute, after a while, it would get stale and boring. But starting over can be scary. And that's why a lot of us stay in dead-end jobs, jobs that we absolutely despise. I've been there. In my past, I have worked at places for years, years, in places that I absolutely dreaded going into. Not because I disliked the company or the organization. It just wasn't my bag. It wasn't for me. It got stale. And I just didn't, I had no passion for it anymore. And if you're if you're like me, a lot of you out there like me, when you lose your passion and just something, you're just going through the motions, man. It's like stuff you can do. You can brush your teeth really without thinking about it. You know, it's just like, OK, here we go. I'm coming to this job, clocking in, you know, go on doing this, doing that. I and I hear it from a lot of people. I've talked to folks, you know, friends, family and acquaintances and a lot of them. have decided to go to other opportunities and have. And you know what? Good for them to have the audacity, the boldness to step out. That's what you need to do. But it is scary. I get it. I understand. But let's talk about now the shift. How to embrace a fresh start. You know, starting over isn't, like I said, it's not a sign of weakness. And I, you know, I thought that way for a long time. I do. And sometimes I still have that thought rushing to my mind if I'm going to pivot on a project or start a different project and stop one and move to another or a certain area in my life. I still have that nagging thought that creeps into the back of my head that says, oh, man, you failed, Terry. It's not. It's not a sign of weakness. Starting over is a sign of courage. Let me say that again. Starting over is a sign of courage. That's what I want you to remember that. Now, here's how we make peace with clean slates. Number one, release the sunk cost mindset. And you're like, Terry, what's that? All right, I'm going to tell you. Don't ruin your future holding on to a past that isn't serving you. Let me say that again. Don't ruin your future. holding on to a past that isn't serving you. My friends, life is too short. If 2026 again has not reminded this guy here on this end of the microphone that life is precious, it's something to be cherished, valued, grateful for every day with the passing of a paternal person in my life, a passing of a parent out of the blue, seemingly. It has reminded me that life is precious. We're not guaranteed tomorrow. We're not guaranteed to wake up tomorrow. We're not guaranteed our next breath. And it's precious. Life is precious. So don't ruin your future holding on to a past that isn't serving you. Staying on the wrong path just because you walked a long way down it, it won't turn into the right path. It won't. Haven't you ever had those situations in your life? You know, I'm just going to try this. I'm going to try that. I'm going to try everything. Now, I'm not saying you give up at the first sign of resistance on something. You've got to have a little fortuitousness, you know, a little oomph, a little wear and fall. A little gumption. But, man, if you've really given it a good effort, and you know if you have or haven't, Don't be staying on the wrong path just because you've walked a long way down it. It won't make it. Turn into the right one. All right, number two, focus on the next right step. When you look at a huge blank canvas, it's overwhelming, isn't it? Don't worry about step 10 or step 20. Ask yourself this question. What's the single best decision I can make in the next five minutes. It's that simple. What's one thing? What's the single best decision I can make in the next five minutes when I'm changing? Number three, redefine failure as feedback. A reset is just life giving you better data. Yeah, that's all it is. Start thinking of it like that. You know what doesn't work, what doesn't align with your values, and what you truly need moving forward. You know you. You're the best you. You know you. Now, I know you're going to say, all right, Terry, but, you know, sometimes I just don't know what to do. And, you know, I have friends that go to counselors and, you know, because they're having trouble in this relationship or in this career and they're getting life coaching. I get that. There's definitely a time and place for all that. I get it. Absolutely. And I agree with it. I hear you. However, you know you. Deep down inside, if you take a few moments and just meditate on it, whatever you want to call it, ruminate, dare I say that word, because sometimes it can be a bad word, rumination. But, you know, if you're religious, pray about it. Just do some deep down soul searching. Because only you know what will and won't work for you. People can give you the best intentions and the best advice, whether they're professionals or family members, friends, what have you. But you know deep down in your being, in your soul, in your spirit, what works for you. So take a deep breath. Forgive yourself for what didn't work out. And get excited about what you're building next. Because life is too short before you know it. Days. Weeks. Months. Years have passed. Do you want to be In 10 years? Where you are right now? Think about that. Thank you so much for joining me around our virtual campfire on Weiss Thoughts. If someone you know is navigating a fresh start, share this episode with them.
