And you know what? I am so glad you decided to spend some of your valuable time with me today. I'm glad. I'm overjoyed. How you been? How you doing? Doing pretty good? All right. We are in the midst of full-scale fall in the eastern half of the United States of America, from whence the program cometh. And gearing up, the days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer, and the weather is getting chillier. Have you pulled out your winter clothes yet? I was just looking the other day, and I'm like, oh, man, winter already. Didn't, I don't know, is it me? Did summer seem to just go whoosh? It's gone, man. Summer just was a blink. It was a very interesting summer. A lot happened to myself. And you can listen to past episodes of the Weiss Thoughts podcast for more info on that. Lots of crazy stuff happened. Unfortunately, lost a parent this past beginning of the summer. But, you know, that is the circle of life, my friends. It was kind of unexpected, but not unexpected, if that makes any sense to anybody. However, it was one of those things that we all will have to go through in life. losing someone we love, especially a parent, as we all gain in years. And everybody handles grief in their own way. But anyway, I don't want to be a bummer and bring everybody down on this episode of the podcast. But we're going to talk about, okay, what we're going to talk about today on the Voice Thoughts podcast as we gather around the virtual campfire. We're talking about the Internet's absolute obsession with self-torture in the name of And I am doing the air quotes here in the studio. Wellness. I mean, think about this for a second. Have you noticed that every fitness influencer on your phone wakes up at an hour that used to be reserved exclusively for bakery owners and international spies? Yeah. Hey guys, here's my 3.45 a.m. morning routine. First, I drink two gallons of water mixed with Himalaya salt, meditate under a red heat lamp for 45 minutes, and read three business books before the sun comes up. Listen to me, okay? If you are waking up at 3.45 a.m., you aren't optimizing your life. You're just running away from sleep. I mean, that's my humble opinion. Now, is it good maybe to get up at a reasonable hour and not sleep till like 9, 10, 11, 12 o'clock every day? Yeah. And there is validity in the fact that if you get up, let's say, an hour earlier than you usually do. So let's just put on our hypothetical thinking caps for a moment. Let's say you get up at normally 7 a.m. And that gives you enough time to do what you got to do and get ready for work if or what have you. If you get up at 6 a.m., you can do some things that you normally wouldn't maybe be able to get done in a day, or that you would push off until later in the day and keep you up later at night, or that, like I said, you might not get done at all. Now, I'm hearing you out there shaking and rattling your head saying, oh, Terry, pray tell, what do you mean? Well, let's try this hypothesis, shall we? You get up at 6 a.m. instead of 7. You decided, you know, that you want to get healthier, so you want to do a morning walk. Well, if you're in the part of the world or the country where it still gets light around 6 a.m., you can go out and do a 15-minute morning walk in the fresh air, get some fresh air, get the blood and juices flowing. If not, you can walk indoors on a treadmill or on an exercise bike. You can do some indoor cycling. But that way, now you've got, you know, you're building that healthy routine. And it's not taking any other time out of your day. You can also wake up and use that time to maybe split it between an exercise routine and maybe some journaling if you want to, you know, journal or write. Or if you're practicing a musical instrument, you can take... 20 minutes, 15, 20 minutes out of that extra hour that you're getting up here and giving yourself in your day to practice your instrument, as long as it's not something that's going to wake up the neighbors. We don't want to be waking up the neighborhood at 6 a.m. I'm sure they won't appreciate it or your spouse or siblings or what have you. Those are just a few ideas, you know. My advice would be, and again, this is just advice. I am not a doctor. I am not a licensed clinician of any sort, both physical, mental, or psychological, as they say. But doing this, I think, will help your overall mental health, get you more focused, and it'll allow you that maybe... introspective time for introspective thought to reflect, even if you wanted to get up and maybe just meditate for 20 minutes earlier or something. But what I want to say is this. Do not use this time to finish work projects and things of that nature. This is your time, okay? This extra hour that you would give yourself in the a.m. is strictly be selfish. This is you time, okay? You. This is strictly for you. to do something you enjoy, do something that you've been putting off that is a goal. This is what you want to use this extra hour of time for. Not for your boss or your company or even if you own a business. No, make this about you and your time. Because what a lot of us do, and I was guilty of it for the longest time myself, friends, we get so self-engrossed of being the perfect employee or being the perfect business owner or what have you. that you lose yourself. You lose yourself, and you don't want to do that. Heavens no. So you've got to be a little selfish and have some you time. And the easiest way to do it is just wake yourself up maybe an hour earlier. Okay? Now, another aspect of the Internet guru health fitness craze is are something called cold plunges. People buying $ 3, 000 metal tubs just to sit in freezing water while staring painfully into a camera. Well, remember when jumping in water was called an accident? Now it's biohacking. If I want to freeze my body, I'll scrape snow off my windshield in February like a normal person. I mean... It seems like we've turned basic health into a competitive performance sport for crying out loud, doesn't it? Now, if you don't, if you want to do, there is some data out there and I have looked at it. So there is some data to warrant the benefits of cold exposure. However, I would, I would advise against going to an extreme, especially if, you know, depending on your health, you know, talk to your doctor first, obviously. But you want something you can do right away and that's easier? Instead of taking that hot shower or even a lukewarm shower, start moving that control for your shower temperature back a little bit each time. Every time you take a shower, let's say once a week, just move it back a little further, further, further. This is something I do personally. because they say that the cold water stimulation helps with circulation, helps with pain management and muscle soreness. And I have found, maybe it's psychological, but I have found some benefit to this. I have. I have. But I didn't jump right in. I didn't just jump in a tub full of ice cubes and go, eh. What I started doing, and I found this from someone else on the internet, is that you just, instead of taking, because I used to take really warmed, almost hot showers. And you know what? It was, for me, I don't know about you, but for me, it was drying my skin out, And it was making me, you know, miserable in the winter, especially get that dry, itchy skin. Then you got to buy the creams and the lotions to put the lotion on its skin. Movie reference. Look it up. Anyway. Hello, Clarice. That's all I'm going to say with that. But it was drying my skin out just immensely. And I was miserable. And I'm like, okay. So I started just dialing that hot water back. After a week, I got it to lukewarm. Then after about another week, I dial it back a little more. Now it's almost like it's cold enough, but it's not, so I'm shivering. And my skin doesn't dry out as easily. The soap seems to work a little bit better, you know, when you're rinsing and doing your soap and rinsing off and in the shower and cleaning yourself. Try that. Because that cool water, colder water gets the, you know, it tells your body, oh, we're cold. We've got to flood more bodies. blood over here, and so it'll, you know, flood the blood into the part of your body, you know, your blood vessels and capillaries and all that other science-y stuff we learned in school. So give that a shot and see if that works for you. Let me know in the comments. WeissThoughts.com under this episode. So, you know, it's all about, I guess it's all about common sense, and it's all about using common sense. which let's face it, some of us in today's, and I'm just making a general statement. Some of us in society, common sense folks ain't so common sometimes. I've seen it. I'm out there with you in the world. I look at people sometimes and I just shake my head and go, oh boy, I wouldn't do that. But I'm sure people have done that to me too. Looked at me and go, oh, Terry, what are you doing? Just remember, you know, you're, We used to have these things back in the 90s, the mid to late 80s and early 90s called infomercials, not commercials, infomercials. Look up the term on the internet, all you youngins, where somebody would pay for a half hour or an hour of network time, usually in the wee hours of the morning, 12, 1, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning. It would pay to run their thing and The biggest thing that I saw with these infomercials, there used to be a guy called Kevin Trudeau. And he was hawking everything from coral calcium to other health type things and then how to start a business. And then there were other people that were trying to do real estate. Oh, you can buy a house with no money down. I mean, have people done stuff like that, buying a home with no money down? I'm sure they have. Is it as prevalent as they made it seem and is easy in these infomercials? Hell no. But there's a lot of desperate people out there, and there's a lot of people that think, you know what, hey, you know, and especially if you're up at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, maybe your judgment isn't as focused as it should be as it is during the day. Then all of a sudden, bingo, you know, they got you for $ 49. 95. or whatever it is. I mean, think about this. If 5,000 people send in $ 49. 95, that's a lot of money. 10,000 people, whatever. But yeah, infomercials were the big thing. And I kind of feel like the internet now has turned into, especially with the health crazes that are out there, some of them are really Beyond ridiculous, but some of them, folks, are even dangerous and could hurt you, okay? Not only hurt you, cost you your life. So you really got to take everything with a grain of salt. And by that, that expression means scrutinize everything. Think, the first thing you should think when someone says, hey, I do this, this, and this, and I lost 500 pounds in two months. Think about it. Does this make sense? First question you should ask yourself. Does this make sense? Then go a little deeper. And that's what you want to do. Because like I said, some of these things they're pushing, okay, can have real, real consequences. I mean, if you want my advice, and again, it's just advice. I am not a doctor. I am not a therapist. I am not a nutritionist. Drink some water. Go for a walk. Eat a vegetable or two. and get about seven to eight hours of sleep. I mean, folks, that's 95% of health right there. But think about this. Nobody can sell you a $ 200 powder or a specialized ice tub if they tell you the truth. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. We'll see you next time. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there. And remember, to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see.
