It's time for a virtual campfire sit down with Terry Weiss. Welcome to weiss Bough. Hey, everybody, welcome back to another episode of the podcast. Welcome to Wife's Thoughts. I am Terry Weiss, and I am so glad that you decided to spend some of your valuable time with me today. We're back on the end and you're probably saying, hey, Terry, you know you kind of set it the end of twenty twenty four there, you know in your last episode of Wife's Thoughts that you're gonna try and keep to the weekly schedule on the podcast. Well, the COVIDD bug hit the house after Christmas, in between the Christmas holiday, and so me and the Missus was recovering from that. Take a little sip of coffee here, So everyone's fine. To thank you for your concern for those of you who reached out. Fine, everyone's good. It was just, you know, that that winter thing, and we tested positive for the COVID thing, and so we isolated ourselves for a while, and you know, just a lot of chicken soup, a lot of orange juice and vitamin C and liquids and you know all that. But you know what it gave me a chance to pontificate and reflect and read, really get back into reading here in the new year. So happy twenty twenty five everyone. I hope all all is well with you. I hope everyone is doing well, and welcome to the first show of twenty twenty five for Weiss's Thoughts. If you want to check out the website, it's Weis'sthoughts dot com. Just make sure you spell my name right, please, WYCEE Wis's Thoughts dot com. There you can listen, listen, listen to each and every episode of the podcast and you could. You probably can tell too. I still sound a little, just just the slightest bit nasally still, like I said, running through its thing, but it's leaving the body. So we're good. We're back. We're ready to rock and roll and push forward here. But anyway, Weiss Thoughts dot com is the website. You can check out the YouTube channel. Just search for Weiss's Thoughts on YouTube and I am on x just at Terry Weiss Wyse there and also you can check out Purplepitstudios dot com for other podcasts that we do and other things to do with the audio video realm okay, sound good? All right, great. So what do I want to talk to you or with you I should say about on this episode of the podcast. Well, I know it's a little bit late by the time you're hearing this. We're gonna be in probably mid February, February, mid February, excuse me, mid January by the time you're hearing this. So what do I want to speak to you about today. I want to talk to you about New Year, new you, and starting off the year right now. A lot of us make New Year's resolutions and pledges and promises to ourselves and to others and say, hey, you know, I'm going to do this. I'm going to lose weight, or I'm going to increase my income, or I'm going to you know, learn a new skill, or I'm going to be more attentive to my spouse or my family, or I'm going to build better relationships or what have you. We all kind of make those internal promises to ourselves. And it has been said, and it has been proven that not many of us, my friends, not many of us keep said promises. Not many of us do. And what I want to talk to you about today is ways to motivate yourself ways, and this is more and this is just as much for me as it is for you out there listening. Ways we can motivate ourselves, keep ourselves going to forge ahead in twenty twenty five and hopefully accomplish some of those goals, some of those things we want to do, some of those things and promises we want to make, whether it's improving your life, getting a better job, getting more fit, getting healthier, losing weight, gaining weight, you know, learning a skill, dropping a bad habit, whatever it is. Because the the field, it's a vast field of what you can, should and would like to do. And so I wanted to touch base with us, all of us here today and look into doing that and saying, you know, what can we do to be better? But first, before we do. That, it's that time again. It's time for the wordsmith word of the episode. Yes it is okay, So we're going to tell you how to improve your big brain and improve your vocabulary. And this week what is this week's word of the episode? Oh, a computer generated voice shoe? What was that shoe? All right? A shoe's spelled s h u s s s h uss shoe and it is in a noun form a straight downhill run on skis, or if you use its verb form, make a straight downhill run on skis. Not much difference there, but let's use it in a sentence, shall we. Ezra's skills are on display when he skis on the shoes. All right, Well, a shoe is exciting for experienced skiers. Beginners are advised to steer clear. All right, one more sentence before we. After the lesson on shoe sing, I was much more confident on the mountain. All right, So there you go. That's this week this week's wordsmith word of the episode shoe spelled sh uss and again, in its noun form, it's a straight downhill run on skis. If you want to use it as a verb, you can make a straight downhill run on skis. Honestly, I don't see the difference between those two things, but hey, what do I know. I'm just I'm just the host, right, So that's your wordsmith word of the episode. And now you can impress your friends with your big brain when they say, wow, you really know some cool words, are you? How often are you gonna use it? I don't know, I really don't know. But anyway, there it is for you. You've all asked for that little feature on the podcast here to come back, so we're doing that in twenty twenty five. Oh boy, So anyway, did you have a good Christmas? Did you have a good New Year's? Were you safe? Everything good? Safe? With New Year's good great? As I mentioned in the opening of the podcast, today, me and the wife, me and the missus had the itis. But we are, we are recovering. We got our voices back, and you know, we stopped going through boxes upon boxes of tissues, and boy, the folks who make oranges and orange juice really loved us. But anyway, we're the end and feeling two hundred percent better. And I'll tell you what, there's nothing like feeling under the weather to really make you appreciate having good health, or even relatively good health. Because when you can't smell or taste anything, or if you're constantly sneezing and just overall feeling run down and miserable. Boy, once you get back in the swing of things and start, you know, you know, get on that path to recovery, you really really really really appreciate everything and you're like, yes, it feels good to be alive. So anyway, let's get right into it, shall we. Now we all do it. I've done it for years and years. You've done it for years and years. And around this time of year. What am I talking about? We're talking about making those resolutions, new Year's resolutions, new Year's promises, you know, things we tell ourselves we want to, should and have to do. You and a lot of us, yours truly included, many times have failed, have failed ourselves and failed to come through and follow through on things we wanted to do for the new year. Now, one of the biggest things that and you're probably as I'm telling you this and we're talking about this today here on the Wife's Thoughts podcast, you're probably sitting there going, well, the biggest one I know is all these people man that run out and join gyms. Yeah, the gyms love it because if they get you to pay like upfront for a full year membership, and let's say, you know, there's a cancelation fee or it's non refundable or what have you, people might go once or twice and that's it. Then they're done. And these organizations raking all the money. Now, that's the biggest one that comes to mind with me is people I'm gonna go join a gym. I'm gonna starty now great with a workout are and they go maybe one or two times ago. Holy crap, man, this shit's hard. Ah nah, no thanks, And you know why, that's just human nature, my friends. Whether it's making a promise to go to the gym and work out more and you know, get more physical, exercise more, eat better. What have you change an attitude, drop a bad habit, learn a new skill. It's proven and I know I've had it happen in my life over and over again, that it's always easier. We as human beings, we want to take the path of least resistance. And it's just human nature, my friend. It's just fundamental human nature. It's easier to go. I'll just have that soda instead of drinking water. Or I don't want to set the alarm thirty minutes early to get up and do a fifteen minute walk. I'd rather sleep in, roll over, grab the blanket and the pillow and just got all up in bed and relax. I know I've been there. You know it's easier just to snap and go from blist to pist in a nanosecond and just yell at somebody when they you know, just my eyer gets up. I know, I've been there. Okay, it's it's it's hard to bite my tongue or just take a moment in sixty seconds and just reflect on something to be thankful for rather than getting angry for nothing or getting angry really quickly. I get it, I get it, I've been there. I'm with you. But let's let's be honest with ourselves. We make these promises to ourselves, we make these these requests, and we have these desires that we want to do this. Why because we want to be better. We all do. I do. I know you do. And if you run into somebody that says I don't make resolutions, bullshit. Okay, if you don't do that, then it's because then you're just you know, you're going to fail. That's probably one thing. Or you do it and you just say that statement to make yourself sound a little bit above the world. We all want to improve. It's natural. We all want to improve. We all want to be better people. We all want to aspire to something greater. I don't know many people that say, eh, you know whatever, I'm three hundred pounds, and I can't walk from here to the next room without puffing like a steam engine and huffing. And I don't even smoke. I can, you know, guld hardly breathe on a breath or oh, you know, I you know, I'm making minimum wage and I have been for twenty years. I don't really want to make any more money. I don't know of anybody like that. Have you have you really can? You honestly say you've come across somebody that has no desire to better themselves. Now, you might meet some people that it might look that way. You know, you might come across individual or individuals, and you might form an attitude and say, man, what a bunch of lazy slobs, or they have no desire, they have no gumption, they have no no oof to better themselves because we're making a judgment. But you don't know their mind. Deep down inside, they might want to better themselves, deep down inside. They might want to say, you know what, there is more, There's gotta be more, you know, and might want to do that. We don't know, We honestly don't know. And so it is one of fundamentally the hardest things to do is to work on you. And I know I've had a lot of you reach out on you know, I've done episodes on weight loss and getting into better shape over the past year or two, thinking fundamentally, how to grow your mind, how to grow your business, how to change your attitude, how to become more motivated, and a lot of you say, you know, Terry, I got those struggles too. I hear you, man, I hear you, brother. I'm right there with you. And we've had some great email conversations back and forth on that. And I'm telling you, like I always say, folks, i am not an expert. I'm not your Tony Robbins. I'm not your guru, Okay, but I'll tell you if you want to listen to someone speaking of Tony Robbins, he's great to listen to. If you ever had a chance to do a couple of his programs. He's got a free one coming up here by the end of the month. I'll just go online to Tony Robbins dot com. There's a the name of the program escapes me right now. But he's got a free program coming up where he's going to do a free program. I believe it's a two or three day program. It's absolutely free about kind of kickstarting you in the new year. And I'm going to be signing up for that as well. And I've listened to some of his seminars, some of the interviews he's done recently. You can he was on the PbD podcast, he was on I believe THEO Van's podcast as well in the past couple weeks. And just he inspires me, he really does, I'm like, wow, you know, now, you know a lot of people out there say, well, it's all a bunch of bullshit, you know, it's all a bunch of psychological babble blah blah blah. Well, you know what, if somebody is not reaching in your pocket and grabbing thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars out of it, somebody's offering free stuff. If somebody is offering just some free practical advice, why not listen to it and see if it can be beneficial for you. You got nothing to lose if your religious read the Bible too. In addition to that, you know, you know, or if you're some other type of religion and your scripture offers you, you know, a life instruction. A lot of people, you know, Christians, will say Bible, you know, basic instructions before leaving Earth, b I, B L E. There's a lot of I've read the Bible, and there's a lot of practical advice in there, a lot of stuff that still rings true today thousands of years later. A lot of so must be onto something. But anyhow, I think the biggest thing that prevents us from improving us is us. Let me say to that again, the biggest obstacle that prevents us from improving ourselves is ourselves. Because again, we all love to default to that setting, that easy setting. You know, it's like playing the video game oneasy ah, I can defeat this level because it's uneasy. But I'm telling you, my friends, anything worth doing is going to be hard. It's going to have some challenges. But you know what, in the long run, there's going to be so much personal satisfaction at once you get near the end of that road. And there's so many resources, so many resources available nowadays to help us along that you got to take advantage of them. There's paid resources and unpaid resources. There's mentors out there all over the place, in organizations, group you know, online forums, you name it, it's out there. And if you want to improve yourself, yes you can and any any facet of your life. So you know, some practical pointers I would offer is set small, attainable goals. Set daily, weekly and monthly goals. You know, set your If you're going to set a big goal, Let's say you say I want to lose I want to lose this year. I want to lose thirty pounds this year. Great, that's the main goal. This is just my off the cuff practical tips. And just say you want to lose thirty pounds, all right, thirty pounds. Set you set that goal, that's the main goal. Then you want to set a monthly goal? All right, how much do I want to lose a month? If I want to lose thirty pounds, I got I want to lose at least three pounds a month. Let's just say, all right, that'll put you over thirty pounds. I know the math. I'm just spitballing an idea here, throwing it out at you. So three pounds a month I gotta lose, all right? How much do I want to lose? Then let's say every two weeks, I got to lose at least a pound every two weeks. Great, Now under that, what are you going to do to at least lose that pound every two weeks. I'm going to exercise two more days a week, or I'm going to stop eating after eight o'clock at night. No solid foods. I can have coffee, tea, milk or drink, what have you. I'm going to not eat sweets Monday through Friday, but if I want to have dessert on Friday and Saturday, that's fine, whatever it may be. I'm again, I'm just throwing an ida out there. See, so you set the big goal, you set the monthly goal. For a month, you set the goal, then for bi weekly or weekly. There you go. Now when you go back and look at that, it stays say, oh my god, I'm gonna lose thirty pounds. Well I can start next week or I can start next month. No, I'm going to lose thirty pounds. And then I got to lose at least three pounds a month, and then a pound every every two weeks. So you start by the small goal losing the pound every two weeks, and hold yourself accountable, keep track of it. Make a journal. What have you. And then once you start losing that pound every two weeks, and then you get in the mon that first month or second month, oh my gosh, you know I lost I lost three pounds this month. But once you start seeing those small victories by obtaining those small obtainable goals, the task is not as daunting. Okay, your task is not as daunting, and you're feeling a sense of accomplishment, which again is fuel fueling you fuel I always speak, it's pushing you, motivating you. How's that, and fuelling you to move forward. Then once you get to the end, that end of the year, you're going to hit that goal and you're probably gonna blow it out of the water and you're gonna feel better. Your your your self esteem is going to be great because you'll be like, wow, I did it. And it's the same for any kind of goal you want to achieve. Just an idea. So as we move forward in twenty twenty five, you know, make it pick a goal or two, set the big goal, set the monthly goal, set the weekly or bi weekly goal, and then take it from there and hold yourself accountable and you can do it again. There's forums, there's groups. There's paid there's unpaid resources. Talk with your friends, your family. If they don't give you the emotional support that you need or the mental support, move on to somebody who will you know, find a partner or a friend, a buddy, what have you, a group and get involved that way and that way we'll all be able to better ourselves in whatever it is, whether it's getting healthier, losing weight, learning a new skill, furthering our career, bettering our relationships, and we'll have a prosperous and happy twenty twenty five. Thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there. And remember to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you, a person looking back at you in the mirror every morning. Remember to be kind to yourself, be kind to others. If you want to tweet at me on Twitter, it's at Terry Weiss.
