Before we get started, though, we've got to do everyone's favorite part of the program. It's that time again. It's time for the wordsmith word of the episode. Uh yes, indeed, where you can impress your friends and your co workers with your big brain and vernacular vocabulary knowledge. And this week's wordsmith word of the episode is oh ai computer generated voice. What is it? A me? Say it again for me? A me bonoi spelled b o n h O m e. And it is a noun which means cheerful friendliness and generosity. Yes, no, cheerful friendliness, geniality. That's what it means, cheerful friendliness, geniality. And let's hear it in a few sentences, shall we. She's having a hard time picking up new skills, but the new hire has such boname that she's getting positive feedback from her colleagues. All right, how about another one? The morning show was ranked number one, due in large part to the co hosts. Bona me all right, one more just extends the same boname to everyone, whether friend or stranger. All right, and that's this week's word Smith Word of the episode. Bon a me b o h b o n h oh boy, I'm having I'm having an episode, aren't I here? A great episode? B o n h O M I E. Boname a noun cheerful, friendliness, geniality. So now you know, and you can impress your friends and everyone will be happy when you break out your wonderful knowledge. Here from this week's word Smith Word of the episode. So on a word and upward we go, shall we this podcast? Right now? On this episode, folks, we are going to talk about our virtual campfire episode today and thanks, by the way for joining us around the virtual campfire. It's just as fun, but with fewer mosquitoes and slightly better audio quality, I think. And today we're going to dive into something that makes us tick, gets us out of bed in the morning, and sometimes sometimes keeps us up at night. We're talking about that little spark, that inner engine, that sometimes elusive force. Motivation. That's right, Yeah, motivation. We all want it, we all chase it, and sometimes just when you think you've got a handle on it, it plays hide and seek. You see these super motivated folks that you see out there in social media, crushing their goals, running marathons before you even hit the snooze button for the third time, and you think, what are they got that I haven't? But here's the thing. Motivation isn't a one size fits all kind of deal. And that's true. It is very true. What lights my fire might not even make your youre's even flicker. And that's perfectly even, absolutely one. Okay. In fact, it's a kind of beauty about motivation that we're all wired differently. So let's break it down, shall we. Just let's break it down a little bit. You probably heard the terms intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Think of intrinsic as the you know, the stuff that comes from within inside you. Okay, you think of it like that. You do it because it feels good, it's interesting, it aligns with your values. It's the joy of learning something new, the satisfaction of creating something, the personal growth that you feel when you push yourself, it's your internal rewards system firing on all cylinders. Then you've got extrnic Now, extrinsic motivation. This is the stuff that comes from outside, like rewards or praise, the avoiding of punishment and deadlines, getting a bonus at work and getting likes on your latest post, finally cleaning your garage just so your significant other stops giving you the look. You know what I'm talking about. You know that one. Now. For a long time, the popular wisdom was that intrinsic motivation was the better kind, the pure, noble pursuit of something for its own sake. Yeah. Absolutely, that deep seated passion is very powerful. Let's be real here, huh. Extrinsic motivation gets things done too, And sometimes that looming deadline is exactly what you need to finally finish that project. Sometimes the promise of a reward is the nudge that gets you started. The trick I think is to say one is inherently better than the other. But you know what, it's understanding what motivates you in this moment for this task. Are you just slushing and slogging along through something that you find really boring? Well, maybe extrinsic rewards and motivation is what you need, and that might be the way to go for you. But promise yourself a treat when it's done, or maybe find a way to, you know, gamify it. I guess, turn it into a challenge. On the other hand, if you're feeling burnt out on something that you used to love, maybe you need to reconnect with the intrinsic motivation. Why did you start in the first place about it brought you joy? And can you find that spark again, even in a small way. It's like tending that virtual campfire we talked about here on the show. I always say we sit around a virtual campfire. Sometimes it blazes bright on its own. Other times you got to add some kindling and maybe even a little lighter fluid to get it going. That's okay, Well, that's cool. Motivation isn't a constant state. It ebbs and flows just like life. My friends. There will be days when you feel you can conquer the world, and there's going to be days where getting out of bed feels like well, trying to climb mount everst It's normal. It's perfectly normal. I go through it all the time and I'm sure many of you out there say, yeah, you know what, me too. You know it's normal. We're human, not robots programmed for perpetual productivity, although the world might want you to think so. So what does motivate you? Is it the pursuit of a big dream, the desire to provide for your family, the challenge of mastering a new skill, or is it the fear? Is it the fear of missing out? I mean, let's be honest, is it the fear of missing out? Hey man, no judgment over here. Okay, whatever it is, acknowledge it, Understand its power in your life. That's the That's the key, right there, is understanding how you feel, what motivates you, and don't be afraid to experiment. If what used to motivate you isn't working anymore, try something new. Set smaller goals and celebrate achieving them. Find accountability with people using accountability buddy, or you know a coach, you know a friend coach you and help you and hold you accountable. Sometimes I've turned to that many times, many times I have. I mean, I've even gone so far and maybe you have too. You listen to some cheesy pump up music you know, whatever it takes to get that spark going. For me, what motivates me to do this podcast, to share these voice thoughts with you is the connection. It's knowing that maybe, just maybe something I say sparks a thought, a different perspective, or even just a chuckle in your day. That connection, that idea of sharing this virtual space with all of you. That's powerful intrinsic motivation right there. And yeah, the occasional five star review doesn't hurt either. That's the little extring cherry on the top. So as you go about your week, pay attention to what motivates you. What are the things that you do willingly, eagerly even when no one is watching. What are the things you need a little extra push for. Understanding your own motivation is a powerful, powerful tool, believe me, and it's the first step in harnessing the energy and directing it towards what truly truly matters to you, My friends. That's all for this episode of the Wife's Thoughts Podcast. I'd love to hear what motivates you. Hit me up on social media, drop a comment, or send a carrier pigeon an email, however you want to reach out. But Let's keep this conversation going, shall we.
