And this week's wordsmith word of the episode is oh computer generated voice. All I'd say it one more time for us. Benignant b E n ig n A n T. And it means serenely, mild and kindly or favorable and beneficial. It's an adjective, let's hear it used in a few sentences. Shall we judge? Was no for a benignant approach, especially in cases involving first time offenders? All right, how about another one? Even his criticism felt benignant offered more as guidance than Reprimand all right, one more the doctor's benignant bedside manner reassured patients before difficult conversations. All right, and that's this week's wordsmith word of the episode. Benignant. Now you can share that with your friends and everyone in your world and impress them with your And see, you didn't have to spend twenty five thousand dollars on a post graduate education to get that, did you? All right, let's get into this week's topic of discussion on the Weis's Thoughts Podcast, shall we? You know we appreciate you coming back here to The Wife's Thoughts Podcast. You know, this is a space where we gather around a virtual campfire on every episode and pull back from the rush and breathe in the cool air and talk about things that, well, for the most part, I feel, actually matter. So grab yourself alog and a hot drink if you want, or a cool beverage, whichever you prefer, and warm your hands by the fire. Shall you? Let's do that now? Have you ever noticed what happens when you step away from the noise? We're talking about the constant hum of distraction on this week's episode of The Way Thoughts Podcast, because like sparks in the dark, we need to reclaim our focus in a noisy world. You know, if you felt a little scattered lately, like your mind is about thirty tabs open and half of them are playing video, you can't find and well, you're in the right place. During the day, we live in a constant storm of notifications, emails, breaking news, social feeds, and work deadlines. You know, it's like it's like standing in a crowded room where people are all shouting at you at once. You know, and slowly, without realizing it, we give away our most precious resource, our attention. Think about it. If you dump a giant pile of wet leaves on a small flame all at once, what happens, Well, it smothers, It creates a ton of dark, heavy smoke, and the heat disappears. That's kind of what that hyper connectivity does to our minds. Every random pin, every endless scroll, is another wet leaf thrown onto our inner fire. We end up feeling exhausted, anxious, and strangely disconnected, not just from others, but from our own purpose. You know, we think we're staying informed and productive, but mostly we're just staying distracted. We're letting the loudest things in our lives replace the most important things. So how do we fix it? How do we protect our spark? Well, it starts with a simple realization. Your attention is your life. What you pay attention to becomes your reality. Let me say that again. Your attention is your life, and what we pay attention to becomes our reality. Imagine treating your focus a sacred campfire. You don't leave a fire unattended, and you don't let just anything fall into it. You choose the wood carefully, dry seasoned logs burn bright, steady and clear. So here three small, intentional ways to start tending your fire today. Okay, we're going to talk about that in just a second. Fuel your thoughts and save today. Hey everybody, welcome back to the podcast, Welcome to Why I Saw Its on Terry Weiss, and today we're talking about the sparks in the dark, reclaiming our focus in a noisy world. And before the break we were talking about the effects that our attention has in our lives and what we can do and to realize that, you know, as we get distracted and what we focus on becomes the most important things to us. And one of the key phases we talked about before the break was your attention is your life. Your attention is your life, and we were talking about what we pay attention to becomes your reality and Voyd that is that is just a powerful, powerful statement. Now, what we talked about before the break here and what we're going to focus here are three small intentional ways to start tending your fire. In other words, ways to have a shift in your life so you can pour your intention into what really matters. Okay, so that's what we're going to do. Imagine treating your focus like a sacred fire. Remember, we don't want to leave it unattended. We talked about this before the break. You don't want to let just anything fall into it. So here's three small, intentional ways to start tending your fire today. First, create a daily fire break, Terry, what's that? Well, give yourself just thirty minutes every morning or evening where no screens are allowed. Yeah, I know it's gonna be a tough one for me too. It was. But thirty minutes either in the morning or in the evening, no screens, none, no input from the outside world. Let your brain catch up to your body, take a walk outside, write in a notebook, or just sit quietly with your thoughts. You know a lot of people can't handle that, and believe me, that was a big one for me, just sitting alone with my thoughts because our my mind was going crazy. Second, practice something called single tasking. Multitasking is a myth. When you do something, whether it's writing an email, cooking a meal, or listening to a friend, give it your entire presence, I mean, totally focus on it. Be fullyware your feed are okay, be there, Be in the moment, be in the now bybe. Another word that's thrown around is be present. It's a big one. How many times do we get distracted? You know, we'll be writing an email and talking to somebody and blah blah blah. Or we'll be making dinner and yacking on the phone to somebody you know, talking on the phone, and then you know, answering a question from this one or that one and following up in an email. You know, we're doing nine things at once. Remember multitasking. That's just a big myth. Okay, it's a buzzword. When you do something, make sure you give it your entire attention, your full presence, be fully where your feet are. And third, ask yourself, is this fuel or is this smoke? Before you dive down a rabbit hole online or jump into a stressful debate, ask it. Ask yourself this. Does it give light or warmth? Or if it just creates confusion and cloudiness? If it smoke, walk away, man, just walk away. I mean, there's a lot of times, and I'm just as guilty of it, folks, where I got down on the rabbit hole of discussions about this, that and the other thing that at the end of the day didn't amount to a hill of beans, as the saying goes, And you don't want to be doing that because you're just wasting time. You know, these little shorts that they got on social media, shorts videos, TikTok short videos. You know, they're even putting commercials in those. Now a short video, thirty second, one minute video, and they and these advertisers got to throw a commercial in there. They have to golly unbelievable. You know, brushing your teeth is brought to you by whatever toothpaste. It's amazing. But I've gone down that rabbit hole on these little you know, YouTube shorts and you know the Facebook shorts I've got. I've caught myself. I'm like, oh my god, forty five minutes just went by, and I'm just flicking to the next one, flicking to and it's easy to do, believe me. And I'm not I'm not a youngster, you know, I'm a dude that has some ears on him. But I've caught myself and I've been pulled in. I've been pulled in by the algorithm. So ask yourself, is it fuel or is this smoke? Before you go down that rabbit hole and ask yourself, does it give lighter warmth? And if it just creates confusion and get smoked? Walk away, man, walk away. Well, as the embers of our campfire here are dwindling, I want to leave you with this thought. You don't need to change the world overnight. You just need to tend your own flame. When you protect your piece and reclaim your focus, you light up the space around you. You become a study beacon for others who might be lost in the dark. Now, just take a deep breath with me, all right, and let go of the noise you've been carrying all day. Step away from the screen after this episode, go look out a window and maybe reconnect with the present moment. Thanks so much for pulling up a space around our virtual campfire with me on this episode of White's Thoughts. If this episode gave you a bit of warmth, share it with a friend who might need a quiet moment too. Until next time, my friends, keep your focus clear, stay grounded, and keep your fire burning bright. Stay well. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today.
