And we're in a different studio here today, over here at the Purple Bit Studios, trying out a different microphone to an MXL microphone. It looks like one of those old style radio mics. It makes me want to say, and now rock deal by the people who bring you the best toothpaste in the world, our radio drum and I'm sorry, I'm just in one of those goofy moves, mister producer. It's it's been an interesting week and I hope everyone out there is doing well. But anyway, hey, let's do this before we jump into the program, shall we. If you enjoy Whye's Thoughts, would you do me a solid as the youngsters say, would you leave a positive rating and review and share us with your friends? Totally appreciate that. And if you want to reach out to me, you can send me email at Terryatweis's thoughts dot com. Sound good? All right? Sounds good? Anyhow, I mean, I'm just in one of those moods here today in this episode of the podcast. You know, there's a lot going on in the world. You know, people are complaining about prices, you know, there's a war still. I'm going with Iran or a police action, whichever you choose to call it. You know, the seasons are changing here in the northeastern half of the United States from whence the program cometh. The other day we had sixty five degrees and it was gorgeous out, gorgeous lights, just an ever slight breeze, but it was gorgeous out. And then literally literally the next day we were back down in the thirties. I'm like, and they wonder why everybody's hacking and coffining, you know, and my sinuses were going, and we had a little bit of that dry, irritated throat and stuff. It's but it's We've come to expect it here in the Northeast. Okay, that's just the way the cookie crumbles, as they say, that's the way the weather goes. And so you know, this is the rough part of the area. As we could dredge on into March here of twenty twenty six. If you're listening to this at a future date and time, wondering why why. So that's the reason why I'm talking about the weather. But we are heading towards spring. I believe the twentieth of this month starts the first day of spring here in the United States. So we're almost there. I mean, we are a mirror a few days away, as they say, so from spring. So hopefully you know, I'll get out because it's been it's been a long, cold, dreary winter. As the Beatles used to say in the song Here Comes the Sun, It's been a long, cold, dreary winter. That's a line from a Beatles song. Look it up. So anyway, Hey, how are you? I hope everyone is happy, healthy. And if you heard that chair squeak in the background, apologize for that. We got to oil these chairs in the studio, mister producer. We really do some of these chairs. I don't know. Maybe that's maybe we're not in here enough. I don't know anyhow, So as promised in the program, let's just dive right in, shall we. Oh? By the way, if you want to see me on Twitter or Twitter or x now as it's called, it's at Terry Weiss, Okay and Wieproductions dot com. There's the website if you need any voice over work audio production. All right, good, all right, I'm sick of promoting stuff. Shall we move on? Thank you. Stop holding up the cards. So, as talked about in the teaser in the opener, how to roll with unexpected things that happen in your life, unexpected changes, good, bad, or indifferent. And I got up to day before coming into the studio and didn't expect some things to happen. It was a good thing. It was a good thing. There was some additional income that came in which wasn't planned upon, and I'm like, okay, didn't expect that, do we do? You See, I'm a I like to, I'm a planner. I like to and I'm some some might even go as far as to say I'm a control freak. I like to know what's going on. I have that mild case of OCD where, you know, like a lot of us, I think like to be in control of things and know what's happening, know what's going on. And it's almost to the point where I think too many of us, to our detriment, try to control our environment and things around us, and it causes undue stress. And I know it does for me. I mean, I'll just share with you some things. It causes me some undue stress and being uncomfortable just you know, for lack of a better word, because I like to control what's going on around me. I really do. And you know it drives the wife crazy. You know, you always got it, just sometimes things happen, and I'm trying. I'm trying to change that response and be more accommodating. Dare I say of going with the flow? You know? I mean, because really think about it, there's really nothing guaranteed in life. I mean, your next breath isn't guaranteed. A sunny day isn't guaranteed, or rainy day isn't guaranteed. Your job isn't guaranteed. The length of your days aren't guaranteed, you know, And there's a lot of I believe it's Eastern philosophy. I'm not sure if it's Buddhism. It might be Buddhism that something to the effect that I'm paraphrasing. Of course, here just to let go. You know, one of the greatest, if not the greatest martial artists of all time, Bruce Leaves, to say, be like water. I'm sure you've heard that phrase, be like water, And what does that mean? For those who may not know? Water can basically go into any form. I mean You can pour it into a straw. You can pour it into a large cup, a small cup. You can pour it into a thimble. You can pour it through a small tube, a large tube around a corner. You know, Just be like water, be willing to bend and move and give and take. I guess I believe that's what Bruce Lee was trying to say. Just be like water, be malleable, be willing to go with the flow, as they say. And I think a lot of us really want to strive to do that now that you know, and I know, I know you're saying, Terry, Yeah, you're saying, do this, do that. It's not that easy, my friend, I get it. I'm with you. I understand absolutely. I understand because I'm the same way I really am. We all like to have that sense of comfortability that comes with control, knowing the outcome, knowing the answer, knowing what tomorrow is going to be, in the next day, in the next week, and the next month and the next year. But life is not like that, my friends. Life is going to throw you the occasional curveball, as they say, the ups, the downs, the lows, the highs, the lefts and rights, the to and froze, and some people really lose their lose their shit. As they say, when it happens, I've done it. Sometimes I still do it. It happens, I'm with you right there in the trenches. But that being said, however, we have to learn to adapt, and there's some things that we can do to try to adapt to being thrown the curveball, as they say, in life, the unexpected things that pop up. The first thing I would say is probably, hey, the old expression expression shit happens. Stuff happens. However, you know the PG version. Stuff happens. It happens to all of us. You're driving to work, you get that flat tire, the check engine light comes out in your car, what have you? The unexpected layoff at work, the unexpected firing at work. You know, you go to grab the milk out of the fridge, you drop it on the floor and the jug spills all over the floor. Whatever things are going to happen in your life. But the first thing I could say is just you know what, I would just shrug. First thing, just shrug, Well, you know, stuff happens. The second thing I would say, probably, and helping to cope with it, to say, all right, is what can I do about this? Is this something I have to do? And what can I do about it? And try and think about it logically, like, all right, I got a flat tire. All right, well I got triple A. I can call them or I know how to change a tire. I'll make sure I get to the side of the road, be safe, or call a friend or call somebody you know, try to what can you possibly do? And if there's nothing you can do about the situation, if you're it's something totally out of your control, then realize, hey, this situation is totally out of my control. There's nothing I can do about it. The third thing is just take a few deep breaths. Take four or five slow, deep breaths and heal through the nose. Count to four, hold it for one or two seconds, and let it out for five slow Do that four or five times. That'll calm you down, just that moment of pause. The next thing is just realize these things may happen in life, and sometimes they come in clusters. You may have three or four unexpected things happen out of the blue that are good, bad, are indifferent, And then after that it might be smooth sailing for a month or two. You never know. The next thing is to realize is everyone has this happened. It doesn't matter how rich you are, how poor you are, how well uh you know, how well adjusted you think you are, or how you know if you're fat, skinny, black, white, blue, green, purple, orange, pink. Everyone has things in their life that happens. You know, you can plan, you you know, the best laid plans of mice and men. Is another thing that pops into my mind as we're speaking today here in Whyte's thoughts about unexpected things that happen. You know, you can plan, you can try and plan for everything, but there's always going to be that possibility of the outlier coming in. Things happen, and sometimes for the good. You might look at a situation you get the double you get the double shot. I call it. I call it the double shot. Something bad happens, or you think you know that, you would think, uh, interpret it is bad, but then something good comes out of it. Right, you drop that milk on the floor. Oh and while you're cleaning up the floor, you look underneath the fridge and you find, oh my god, somebody. You know, there's a twenty dollars bill I forgot, I dropped and it went under the fridge. Right, something like that. I know something just I was just pulling something ridiculous scenario out of my head. But you know, you get the double shot. Sometimes life gives you the double shots for good. Something you think bad happens and something good comes out of it. You learn a lesson, you discover another path, you discover a better solution, you discover you make a new friend, you learn how to overcome adversity, what have you? You know, going back to that flat tire scenario, you get a flat tire and it's in front of a convenience store. So while you're waiting for the tow truck or trip, you go on and you buy a lotter ticket and you end up winning a thousand dollars. Right, something what you perceive as bad happened, but then something good came out of it, because if you wouldn't have had the flat tire or whatever, you might not have gone into the convenience store, you might not have plocked down a dollar for the scratch off ticket, and you might not want a thousand bucks. See, but I guess the last thing I'll say is that it's all about your mindset and your attitude. There's a lot in today's world. Friends, in the year twenty twenty six, there is so much negativity out there. It's easy to get negative. Just get out of bed, turn on the news, and you can be negative in a nanosecond. We can all fall prey for it, or flip on your phone or your tablet and go into social media. You can get negative in a nanosecond, especially with these algorithms and the garbage being pushed to us. But there's also a lot of good out there. So it's your mindset. I want to leave you with. It's your mindset that makes the most difference. And if you can learn how to tame your mindset and react in different different ways, that's going to go a long way to helping you handle life's unexpected challenges. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there, and remember to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you, the person looking back at you in the mirror every morning. Remember to be kind to yourself, be kind to others. If you want to tweet at me on Twitter, it's at Harry Weiss.
