All right, today on the program, we are officially in the thick of the Winter Alica Games in Melanocortina, and we're gonna talk about it. Well, let's go. Hey you everybody, welcome back, Welcome to the podcast, Welcome to Wife's Thoughts. I am your host, Terry Weiss, and I am overjoyed. I am so glad you decided to spend some of your valuable time with me today. Gosh, I got I got so much on this desk. What a mess I got here? Uh? How are you? Are you doing okay? Are you feeling good? I hope so? In the studio one A here at Purple Pit Studios. Actually it isn't even one A. This is actually studio two B as in to be or not to be? Should I be here? I was cleaning off the desk in the studio here, and I don't know who the heck was in here before me, but they left a lot of garbage in hair, you know, I had to just the MIC's stand and all that kind of good stuff. But anyway, I hope you're doing well. It's February, my friends, February twenty twenty sixth, and we are in the middle of the Olympics, the Winter Olympics. And like I said in the open, if you're not currently sitting there wearing your puffer jacket, and screaming at your television. Are you even living? Are you? Let's talk about it. You know. Now, I've seen a lot of the Olympics, but Italy is doing something special here. Okay, this isn't just a sports event. It's kind of a vibe. You know. We're talking about an opening ceremony that featured both Mariah Carey and Andrea Baccelli talk about range huh huh. But today we're. Gonna move past the glitz and the glamour and get into the grit. I want, you know me, I love getting down into the minutia. We're gonna get into the grit. You know, we've got medium, we've got metals, we've got the media there obviously, we've got medals on the line and you know a lot of it in slop style, big air, speed skating. I mean, let's talk about this, shall we. Now, let's talk about the logistics just for a second, because that matters. Okay, details matter. My favorite fictional character, Jack Reacher. Details matter, by the way, if you haven't caught Jack Reacher on a prime video, do yourself a favor and watch it. It's awesome. Anyhow, details matter, So you know, let's get into that. This is the most spread out Winter Olympics in history. I mean we're talking a thousand, five hundred square miles across northern Italy. You've got the fashion and the flare in Milan for the skating and hockey, and then you got the rugged, breathtaking peaks of Cortina di Apameiso. I hope I'm pronouncing that right for the alpine events. I mean, talk about a contrast, right. You know it has been a logistical nightmare for the organizer, sure, but for the viewer, oh, it's cinematic, man, it is. It feels like the games are breathing through the whole country. And speaking of breathing, did you see a Jetta Libman in the one hundred meter or one thousand meter rather speed skating earlier an Olympic record? Wow. The Netherlands continues to treat ice like it's their own personal highway. They really do it. Man, it was amazing. If you didn't get that, try and see if you can find it on YouTube and watch the replay of that. But for the home crowd, the energy is all about Francesca la Brigada seeing Italy grab that early gold in the three thousand meters set a tone. There's a passion in these Italian venues that we haven't seen in a long time. It's loud, it's proud, and it's exactly what the Winter Games needed. It really is. Have you been watching the Winter Games? Have you caught anything? Leave your comments in the comments section on the website at weiss thoughts dot com, or you can email me at Terry T. E. R r Y at Weis's thoughts dot com as well. Now let's pivot here to the figure skating Team USA just grabbed gold in the team event, and a huge part of that was Leah Malalin. They call him the quad God for a reason. Okay, watching him move, it's like he's defying physics. It's not just a sport, it's a it's a glitch in the matrix. I mean, it's just it blew my mind. You have to check that out. I mean check it out on YouTube. I had to watch it three or four times afterwards, and later that evening I was like, wow, man, unbelievable. But let's talk about the why behind the wins. This year's Games are the most gender balanced in history. Forty seven percent of the athletes are women. We're seeing equal distances in cross country skiing for the first time. Now, why does this matter, you ask? You say, Terry, Oh, pray tell enlighten me. Why does this matter? Okay? Well, because the level of competition has never been deeper. Look at Ellen Goo. Okay, the pressure on that young woman is astronomical, and yet she's back in the free ski slope style finals today, looking as composed as ever. We often talk about clutch in basketball or football, But clutch in landing a double cork on a sheet of ice while the entire world is holding its breath, My friends, that is a whole another level in itself. It really is. Hey, ways, thoughts to listeners, are you looking for a simple way to level up your focus and energy? Well, you know, on. This podcast, I talk a lot about health and vitality. Fuel your thoughts and save. Today we're in his sunglasses indoors just because he wants to. Let's get back to the program. Here's your host, Terry Wise. I tell you. Today's is one of those days where you know, I had a lot of sleep last night. I did. I had a decent amount of sleep, and I still reel tired. But maybe it was. Because over the weekend I ran on about three and a half four hours of sleep on a day or two. You ever get that where you just you're up doing stuff and then you lay your head down and then something happened. Cameras go off outside, animals wandering through the yard, somebody making noise. But anyway, welcome back, Welcome back to Wiye Slots. I'm Terry Weiss, and thanks for dropping by the virtual campfire today, we truly appreciate each and every one of you here at Wye Thoughts dot com. And before we stepped away for a bit, we're talking about the twenty six Winter Olympics here on the Wye Thoughts podcast today, and it's just unbelievable the things that are going on there so far. I mean, it's being hell in Milano Cordina, all right, and already we're seeing some some records broken, We're seeing some unbelievable performances. There has been a couple of tragedies as well, with the skiing unfortunate skiing accident of Lindsey Vaughn. Thankfully, she's okay and she's you know, it just that I didn't see that one happened live, thank goodness, but it was it looked pretty nasty. I guess she had a couple of surgeries on her leg to repair the you know, the damage that was done. But we're sending out thoughts and prayers and goodness. Everything's okay and she's recovering in the hospital, but her her career pretty much is done, I mean, being over being over forty. This kind of was her last hurrah kick at the can whatever vernacular you want to use. But thankfully, thank goodness, not a serious injury per se. Like I said, just a couple of surgeries she had to go through. But she's doing all right. Just gonna have a little road to recovery, you know, but at least you know she'll be functional again. As far as for everyday life and stuff, I can see her becoming a coach for the Olympic team down the road and stuff like that. Possibly. I don't know if she has aspirations for that or not. But you know, I mean, if you're if you aren't watching, by the way, the mixed doubles curling, uh, you're missing out on some good stuff. Now. I know you're saying, what curling Terry. I was talking to a friend of mine and he's like, I just got I don't understand curling. Think of it like it's almost like marbles. If you if you're familiar with the game of marbles, you want to just try and get in that center spot and you you use the the the what do they call him? And curling, Oh, I'm having one of you ever have one of those moments the little things that they shuck down the ice and they got to knock those into the other one and then uh, your your ultimate goal is to get that bull's eye and get as many as your as A called a rook rock rock. That's what it is, the rock. They call it a rock. Okay, I don't I. I guess it's shaped round. It's like a rock. It's heavy. I wouldn't want to get hit with one, I'll tell you that. But you want to get your rock into the center, into that circular diagram there on the ice at the end and knock your opponents out. And it's kind of cool once you get into it. I guess it's one of the things that maybe you have to be in the mood to watch, you know. I remember growing up as a young lead, way back in the day when I was used to watch the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast from the CBC network out of Toronto. They would have curling on Saturday night from seven to eight pm. That was the thing that was on before Hockey Night, because Hockey Night in Canada the games used to start I'm sorry, seven to seven thirty was curling on CBC and then from seven thirty on they had the pregame show and then eight o'clock was the game on Hockey Night in Canada. That was the staple nationwide coast to coast, and watching that I caught curling every once in a while and I go like, okay, this is kind of cool. Even as a youngster, I was like, this is kind of neat. I can understand it. The rules were relatively simple, and there is skill to it, you know, sliding across that ice and trying to you know, maneuver, and then they have the guys and gals with the brush going you know along. But I mean you're missing some of the best soap opera on television. I mean, it's definitely high stakes. It's just it's strategic, it really is. And today's matchups here, you know, between the US and Italy, I mean, I mean they've been herd stoppers. So I mean, speaking of ice, let's take a look ahead. The NHL Stars are back this season at this time for men's hockey. I kind of got mixed feelings on that, sending the the folks from the National Hockey League there to play on the team. I think the Olympics should be for Olympic athletes, the not the professional per se. Now, I know some of you out there say, Terry, Olympic athletes are professional athletes. I get it, But I'm talking about if you're in a league like with basketball, you know, baseball, hockey, what have you. Those folks in the professional leaguess, the NHL, the NBA, the NFL, what have you, they should not be taking a spot of someone that could make it to the Olympic team. That's just my Now. Am I still gonna watch the games? Hell? Yeah, I'm still gonna watch them. In fact, there's one coming up here at the typing of this podcast today here in about forty minutes that I as soon as I get done here and do some post hoop work here on the podcast with the engineer, I'm getting my keyster back, and I'm going to watch the women's USA hockey team. I think they're taking on there's it? Who is it today, Finland? Somebody? Finland? Yeah? Possibly. Anyhow, am I still gonna watch? You? I mean, is it going to preclude me from not watching it as some type of you know, couch protest because they got professional athletes and the on the men's hockey team and what happened. No, I'm still gonna watch and root for my obviously my nation. But I still think they should only have the other type of athletes, not the professional league athletes on the hockey teams, and that goes for all Olympic sports, whatever the sport may be. But that's just a personal opinion. You may disagree. Let me know in the comments if you do, or if you want to shoot me an email and make your case. I'm willing to listen to all sides. But we're seeing as far as the men's NHL stars back in Italy for the men's hockey team for you at Team USA, we're seeing the Kachuck brothers, McDavid Crosby and possibly at Crosby one last time. The energy though in Milan Arenas is going to be electric. It will certainly be an event. My friends. This is the best of the best hockey that we've been creating for a decade. Obviously, I don't know about you out there too. Speaking of men's Olympic hockey, I remember the nineteen eighty team winning and when we defeated the Russians. I remember that event. It was held in Lake Placid, New York. Remember that late they made a movie about it with Kurt Russell. Right, decent, decent, movie. I remember living through it. A couple things in there they did take liberties with as far as I'm concerned, and but it was still a great entertaining movie and a great job by Kurt Russell. He played Wow, I mean he did, he played her. He played her Brooks fantastically. That the mannerisms and everything and that and a lot of it in that movie was factual. There was just a couple things. But it's like anything with when Hollywood or you know, a scriptwriter gets something, you take a little you know, you got to keep it interesting, keep it dramatic, keep it moving along. But I'm sure for all of those like Mike Rizzioni and you know, Jim Craig and all the rest of them, Mike Ramsey, that I'll live through it. I'm sure they have tales they could tell and look for them maybe on podcasts as we get ready for men's Olympic hockey here. Huh. But it's not all glory though. Like I said, we saw Lindy Vaughan's incredible comeback attempt hit a massive bump with her crash landing, and it's a reminder that these mountains don't care about your legacy. Mother Nature can be a h you know what I'm saying. Okay, they can only care about what you do in the next three minutes, so just remember that. But definitely some good stuff, definitely good stuff at the Olympics. And I'll tell you my thought for the day is this. The Olympics are often criticized for their cost or their politics, and I'm just going to give you my take as far as politics goes. And again, you're welcome to your opinion. Okay, this is just my take on it, and if you have a different take, please email me Terry at Weiss Thoughts dot com or put it in a comments section on the website under the Woye Thoughts podcast at Purplepitstudios dot com. I feel that there we have a wide range of views. Everybody has different opinions about it, including politics, which is obviously some of the most volatile things here in the past decade or more, especially in the United States of America, it seems like you can't buy a loaf of bread without someone asking you who you voted for, what you believe in, And frankly, I think a lot of that stuff is none of your damn business. I like Gene Simmons analogy from Kiss the bass player for Kiss Like him or hate him? Gene Simmons. He's a straight shooter. He doesn't bullshit. He will give you the straight answer. He's not going to sugarcoat it for anybody. And God bless him. Immigrant came here with his family. They immigrated, immigrated to the United States. Him and Paul Stanley as well, became worked hard the American dream, learned English, became a rock star, started many businesses, done things, made mistakes, but overall a pretty goddamn successful guy. Okay, I mean, let's just be brutally honest. Okay, you know in the disclaimer, you know I don't language anyway. I don't mean to get on a tirade about this, but one of the things I've seen from our American athletes, you know what you're there, don't answer, don't go into politics. This is not the form for politics. I mean, you're certainly welcome to your opinion, but I firmly believe that this isn't the stage to put your political beliefs out there. We're here competing, you're representing your nation, and of course you might not be happy with everything that's going on in the country now, before or in the future. But when you are at your job, your job, okay, your job in this case is you are there to perform, represent the United States of America and try and win gold. Be respectful, okay, present yourself with some monoicum of decorum and good taste. You might despise this that, or you might not like the state of Idaho or whatever. Just be a professional. Keep your personal inner workings. I think to yourself when you get back home. If you want to join a movement or speak out or whatever, that's one thing. But why are you representing us to the world. Have a little class. Okay, that's all I'm saying. I'm saying. You're still entitled to your beliefs, whether you agree with this one and that one. The other thing, this organization, that organization, this whatever, what on the world stage like this. This isn't a debate, this isn't a talk show for that. You're there to. Perform and do that and represent the nation, all of you, all nations. Keep the politics out of it. This is one of the things that we come to you know every few years that the nations get together and compete in goodwill. Let's kind of keep it that way, right, I mean, I don't know, but anyway, But like I said, the Olympics are often criticized for their cost or for their politics. But you know, if you look at the faces of the athletes in the kiss and cry corner or at the bottom of a he'll run that raw, unfiltered emotion. That's the realest thing we have in media today. I mean, in a. World of AI and deep fakes, you can't fake a ninety foot jump or a photo finish. And Italy is providing the stage, but the athletes are providing the soul. I'm Terry Weiss. Keep your eyes on the ice, your head in the game, and stay safe, be well. All right, We'll see you on the next episode of wi's Thoughts. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there. And remember to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you, the person looking back at you in the mirror every morning. Remember to be kind to yourself, be kind to others. If you want to tweet at me on Twitter, it's at Terry Weiss.
