Let's learn the word of the episode or the episode word? Should we call it the episode word? I don't know, Miss, We'll have to think on what to call this segment of the podcast. But today's word is Carrero. It's spelled k O R er oh and is pronounced carrero. What it means, it's a noun. It's a conversation, discussion or meeting. Here's some example sentences for you. There's a roundtable carrero every evening at the conference. Or you can use it kind of this way. If you can't make the morning carrero, let me know ahead of time, or another way you can use the word carrero. I want to have a carrero with everyone on the team by the end of the year. Basically, its origins are mid nineteenth century, originally from the More language. I believe that's how you pronounced that m O r E. Carrero is also used in New Zealand English as a noun for a conversation, but what more, being more specific a formal discussion. In More, a carrero is used as both a verb to speak and a noun speech or conversation, so in a general sense, but as soon as it moves to the English context there is more formality. For example, at the National Library of New Zealand in Wellington, there's a permanent exhibit about this word and where is it? Permanent exhibit documenting the nineteenth century constitution documents of elrera in New Zealand. One feature of the exhibit called Carrero features video interview use of modern citizens sharing what it means to be kiwi ki wi mori m o o ri and the importance of culture. So there you go. You learned a new word today here from your old buddy Terry Wise. Carrero k O R E r O conversation, a discussion or meeting. So if you want to sound like you got a big fat brain, use Carrero. There you go, huh right, why not? So anyway, Hi, how are you? What's going on? I hope all is well with you and yours as we ramble along here today on Wise's thoughts and man, we are we are full swing into fall, aren't we. Football season has become become now commonplace here in the United States of America. Just got underway here about a week or so. Week or two back. I already had big controversy in the NFL Season two with Aaron Rodgers on that Monday night game versus the Buffalo Bills, which are my team. I'm a Buffalo Bills fan. And anyway he played, he came there with this big fat contract and you know, leaving the Green Bay Packers. Now, for those of you who don't follow football, You're not going to really know what any of this means and probably not care. However, for those of us that are just fair weather fans or die hard fans of the National Football League, he signed a huge, huge contract to go play for the New York Jets and got into the first game of the season, took three snaps, and unfortunately was injured for the rest of the sea. He's out for the rest of the season. He has a torn achilles tendon, and I've known people that has happened to and it is extremely painful. Depending on the damage, he might need surgery, depending on what's going on with that. But definitely sad, you know, because I like Aaron Rodgers. I think he's a nice guy. I wasn't rooting for him at night, but I wasn't rooting for him to get hurt. But he is out for the remainder of this season after taking only three snaps, and I had read that he is actually going to get He has guaranteed even if he doesn't play football ever again for the Jets. Are you ready for this? He has a guaranteed seventy five that's seven to five seventy five million dollars guarantee on his contract. Oh nelly, man, that's a lot of bread, but good for him. I mean, these guys pound our bodies into oblivion and a lot of times die. Some of them die prematurely because of post concussion syndromes and other malaise that happens to their bodies throughout their career. Their bodies take a pound in man. I'll tell you you ever want to if there's any doubt of the abuse that a National Football League player, someone at that level takes on their body, on their physical well being, just watch some documentaries on like ESPN or ESPN Plus or if you happen to get the if you have Netflix, check out the series Ballers with Dwayne Johnson. Ballers Dwayne Johnson and there's a few other stars in there. It ran for about I think five seasons. It was on HBO during its first run, but it's now on Netflix. That'll kind of give you a little bit of insight. I mean, yeah, a lot of it was dramatized, but it gives you a basic insight of what these people in the NFL, the players at least, go through some things. By the way, that was a very entertaining series with Dwayne the Rock Johnson. Speaking of Dwayne the Rock Johnson, did you hear about this controversy going on with him and Oprah with the Maui fires? Did I saw some things on this where him and Oprah made this video wanting people to donate to the Maui fire relief there, and boy did they get smoked smoked online? And some might say rightfully so, because if you look up the net worth of Oprah, let's just start with her. Oprah Winfrey's net worth, okay, are you ready? Is somewhere between depending on the website and the source you get the information from. Get this is somewhere between two point five to three point five billion dollars. That's what Oprah Winfrey's net worth is now she's worked for it. I'm sure, Peter does what have you? But anywhere from two point five to three point five billion dollars with a B. Now the Rock he is supposedly, or Dwayne Johnson is. He's more prominently known as nowadays he is worth an estimated eight hundred million. So he's just coming up on his first excuse me, he's just coming up on his first billion dollars but between the two of them, let's be conservative. Let's say between the two of them, even if you go at the low number for Oprah a two and a half billion, and you throw in and say three three billion dollars between the two of them. Okay, they're out there asking people to donate money now in today's climate, uh, you know, it's kind of people are struggling out there, all right. People are struggling and they're you know, they're they're hurting. Let's just be honest. They're there. They many people in the United States of America and possibly around the world where you may be listening to the podcast, Wife thoughts, some of you out there are really hurting, and I feel for you. You know, we're feeling the pinch a little bit here too. That being said, a lot of people criticized Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne the Rock Johnson there for you know, saying, here's billionaires asking common people to donate money. Now, that of itself could be insulting to some. Okay, it's gonna take a sip here. It's just water today, folks. Just water needed that for the pipes. I get a little dry when I want to yak a lout that in itself could be insulting. Okay, asking people, hey, you know, give us money, you know, et cetera, et cetera, for the effort. Because here's the thing, why don't you reach into your wallet? Both of you celebrities. That was the contention. Why don't you guys reach into your wallet and hey, donate, go ahead, donate a little bit. Now it was disclosed later. I guess that they each I don't know if they each gave five million or five million total, but honestly, considering the amount of money they make, I mean, I know some of you are out there and sitting Hey, Terry, five million dollars, there's nothing to scoff at. I don't have I don't even have a million. I don't have anything, clothes, I get it. I understand that. So five million bucks, Yeah, it's definitely nothing to scoff at. That being said, though, however, if you're worth a couple billion dollars, wouldn't you think? I mean, these people and Oprah should know better, and so should Dwayne Johnson. You're surrounded by media people, you have handlers, et cetera, et cetera. Because when you I would like to believe that when you achieve that level of notoriety, that before you go out there and start blurting stuff out into the public, that you would maybe run it by somebody. I mean, the encourse, given the fact evolved. Celebrities and politicians beyond have not done that. I mean, just look at things that happened on Twitter, slash x and in the media. My celebrities not being filtered and not thinking before they open their yapp and hey, we're all there. I've done that. I've opened my mouth sometimes before thinking and went oops. However, you would think with the notoriety that both of these megastars have obtained, if it was me, I would have said, hey, you know, hi, I'm Terry Weiss and I'm here with Oprah Winfrey and Maui and just you know, this is a tragedy that happened to these people. People are suffering here, and I felt, and so did Oprah, compelled to help. So I want to let you know and give you guys an update on what we've done and how you can also help. So what I've done is I've donated twenty million dollars to get the ball rolling, and Oprah's put in twenty million dollars or whatever you know, to get the ball rolling, so we can get these people the vital services, food shelter, medical care, and to help to start rebuild the Maui neighborhoods here for these people. They've lost everything and those of us that have something should do something. So here's the charitable foundation we've set up. If you feel compared to give to help out, we would truly appreciate your help as well. So there you go. We just wanted to let you know and then you go from there. I mean, that way, you're at least telling people up front, hey, we've done it. We've started the ball rolling, We've kicked in a significant amount of money, and here's what you can do if you feel so compelled. Myself, that's how I would have handled it. With a little more transparency, that's the word. I'm looking for a little bit more transparency upfront. So that way, it just it shows a good faith measure and you're establishing trust and everything right from the get go. Now, another thing that I heard about this fiasco with Dwayne Johnson and Oprah Winfrey with their Maui plea is that some people have stated I haven't done this, so I can't speak truth to this, but I'm just going to tell you the water cooler rumors about it. Some people have clicked on that link for their foundation that they had set up, and supposedly that link goes to an organization that in the past has been known to funnel money to actors and actresses in Hollywood. I'm not saying, I'm just telling you what some people have clicked on that link have been reporting. Now, you got to put two and two together, and people people, some people are smart and they're on the ball, and they do their homework, and they said, wait a minute, Hollywood's on strike. These people aren't getting paid now. And you come out with a charity organization and you want everyday folks to give to it. But yet it's going through an organization that funnels money into organizations that pay actors and actresses, some type of fund. It looks fishy, it looks disingenuous. And remember, perception can become reality. It may not be the actual reality. However, in the public form I'm in the public spectrum, perception can sometimes translate into becoming reality. Okay, that's all I'm saying. I'm not saying they're doing anything wrong. I'm not saying there was any nefarious thing because there's rumors that it's a land grab by the Hollywood elites, etc. Again, depending on the information you get, because it seems like everything that comes out nowadays has seventeen angles to it. I remember growing up in a time where it was black and white. It was either this or that. Now you've got seventeen different angles on any one event going on. But that's how I would have handled that situation very poor. I guess decision on their parts to present it how they did, do it, how they did and that. And it's unfortunate now because it's coming back to bite them in the in the backside in that they're public images are tarnished. Okay. I mean, and you're always I know some of your author saying, Terry, no matter what you do, no matter how successful you've become or don't become, or if you're just an every day Joe or Jane, you're gonna have haters. I get it. I'm on social media. I got haters. I mean, I try to remain as positive as possible. I try to, but you know, there are certain things I have an opinion on and as long as we are still a free country, I'm going to give my opinion just like you're entitled, and I would encourage you to give your opinion in your thoughts on This is how we have great open dialogue and share an express ideas and move forward for the betterment of our society. It's called freedom, and I'm a big proponent of freedom in many many forms. Okay, So that being said, I had a point here as I ramble on. It's just that you would think that they would have known better and done better because they their reputations now have taken a significant blow. I mean they got blasted on places like Instagram, tick, Facebook, I mean just anywhere social media was just ripping them the shreds. And you know social media. I have a very tepid opinion of social media. While it can be used for very very good things in the world today, and it can get us various degrees of information and insight that we might not have had access to unless we met in a public form with our neighbors, it can be used for nefarious means, and we know all about how it can be used for nefarious means. So moving on to another topic, speaking of social media being used for nefarious means. Did you happen to see the article that was out? I believe it. Newsmax first broke the story that the White House may have violated the First Amendment with its instructions during the illness that came out in twenty twenty, as far as censure of opinions and thoughts on it and the canceling of people, not just everyday people, mind you, but doctors, okay, accredited doctors, some very highly accredited of physicians, and think tanks and laboratories because there were different opinions and what was being pushed forward, some would say, in the mainstream media, and they were a lot of people were censored. I'm sure you know all about this. A lot of people were censored, shut down, quote unquote canceled, and then you know, you had that information being suppressed as it were, by government, which should never happen. I'm sorry again. I go back to freedom. I'm a big proponent of freedom and all in all forms for freedom of speech. Now, I've had people clapped back on me on social media and say, oh, so you can't run into a movie theater and yell fire, So I do that now. I mean, people just get ridiculous when they don't want to have an intellectual discussion with you. And I've had some knuckleheads that have reached out via social media platforms and such and say, you know, just asinine things. I guess that's the only way I can describe it, just asinine things, because either they're sitting in mom and Dad's basement, you know, forty something year olds with no job and no life, eating pop pop tarts and hot pockets and have no future, and they just don't haven't want to want to have a smart, intellectual discussion. I'll listen to anybody's opinion, even if I vehemently and my soul agree with it. But however, I'm going to listen to your opinion as long as it's makes sense if it's just not incoherent ramblings of someone who is quote unquote triggered, because I don't believe in wokeism. I don't believe in triggering. I don't believe in any of those buzzwords. Okay, and take that for what you like. If you talk to me, you're getting good old conversation back and forth, and we can even have a very spirited and heartfelt and maybe even highly heated discussion. Well without name calling though, and without you know, degrading the other person, just staying on target and on point, because that's how ideas are expressed and exchanged, and that's how everybody learns something I learned. I've learned some of my greatest information, and on some things, I've had a change in opinion by having very good back and forth conversations with people who had a totally opposite opinion or saw things differently, or had different information that I didn't have access to with him. So, you know, circling back though, to use a Jen Saki ism, circling back. The White House may have violated the first Amendment of the Constitution, or is it a Bill of rights or constitution? Freedom of speech? All I know is it's freedom of speech. It's the first one. It's number one freedom of speech. And you can't do that, all right, no matter what the justification might be for. And speaking of violating the Constitution, did you hear about this individual, this governor in New Mexico that suspended the Second Amendment in certain towns and counties throughout New Mexico that has been now stopped by a court stating that people that have lawful open carry permits because I believe they are an open carry state, and they might even be a constitutional carry. I'm not sure, but anyway, evidently there was a tragedy where a eleven year old child was a victim of a stray bullet, and this governor who decided, she decided, well, I've had enough, and she just suspended the Second Amendment rights for all the people in her state. There. That's that's my gathering on it. You can't do that, folks. You can't suspend the Constitution on your whims, on your feelings. It is there to protect we the people. And I'm a big proponent of individual freedom and the Constitution and the Bill of rights in this country. Okay, that is not going to change. That will never I will never waver from that. That's not going to happen. This country. Our country here, the United States of America, was founded on freedom. We left England to start this great nation. Our forefathers and ancestors and many have traveled from other lands to come to the United States of America to seek freedom, freedom of choice, freedom, liberty, opportunity, a chance for a better life. That's what our nation's foundations are. Bedrock is built on you. And by you, I mean a government agency, civil agency. What have you? Any woke cult? You just can't suspend the Second Amendment, First Amendment, any amend just because it hurts your feelings or triggers you, not going to happen. We the people won't stand for it. There's a lot of us out here that won't stand for that, and you're not going to do it, you know. That's why a lot of times I get it when I get involved in conversations with people, whether it be out in what I like to call the real world, and then in the what I call the matrix, I call the matrix. And by the matrix, I'm not referring to the Canon Reeves movie. I call the matrix. I'm the online world. That's the matrix, you know. Okay, you know social media and that when they start saying, well, we gotta suspend this and we gotta take away these rights and that. No, you don't take away rights. If anything, you modify them and make them better. Because once you start suppressing people's rights, okay, all hell's gonna break loose. It never ends. Well, it never ends well for the common person when rights are being suppressed and suspended in any society, not just the US, but any society. Just ask anyone around the world has been oppressed and their rights have been suppressed by big government or agencies or powers that be, but it never ends well. So that may go to the Supreme Court as well too. I guess if I was reading that article correctly, it's from Newsmax. I'm going to put links to some of these articles that we talked about here, the one for the White House, the gun control things, second amendments, suspension, and what we talked about earlier on the program with Dwayne the Rock Johnson and Oprah. I'll put those in the show notes. You'll have links to go read that for yourself and draw your own conclusions as it were, regarding that. But hey, we're going to wrap it up at this point. It's about all the time we got for today on this episode of White's Thoughts. But I truly appreciate you being here. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there, and remember, to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see.
