So welcome everyone, Welcome to the podcast, Welcome to Whys's thoughts. I am Terry Weiss, and I am so glad you've decided to spend some of your valuable time, as I said, with me today, and we're going to talk about something today on the podcast that is very near and dear to my heart. This episode explores the essence of summer. It's more than just a season. It's a feeling, isn't it. I mean, summer gets me nostalgic. I think of summer's past, the psychology of why we crave sunshine and warmth, and we're going to talk about practical ways to capture that care free summer spirit year round. So let's get into it shell we right now, let's dive right in. Welcome everybody. So you know, summertime is my favorite time of the year. It really truly is. There's so much you can do outside. There's barbecuing. If you live near a body of water, a beach or a lake, you know you can go and really lax, getting together with you know, typical sports, our football, soccer, baseball is very associated. That's why they say the Boys of Summer and the gales of Summer in baseball. What does summer really mean to you? What does it mean to you? Does it mean any does it hold any special memories in your heart? Family trips for the for the kiddos means that a lot of them are out of school. Most you didn't do so hot. And then maybe you're at summer school and you're not liking summer. Well, think about it. There's just we have so much mobility in the summertime months many places here in the United States of America from whence this program cometh, and around the world. It's just a general feeling of more mobility, longer days being out, sunshine for most of us, and you know, those those warm temperatures that allow us to do more. We're not all huddled in our cubicles or stuck in our homes and our domicie. Think about it, though, What does summer mean to you? What does it mean to you? Is it trips maybe with the family. Is it your own personal time to get away? Is it, let's say gardening. Some people love to garden and plant their own garden in the summertime. Some people are really into the yards, making their yards look as attractive as possible. If you're one of the fortunate ones that has a yard, do you find yourself exercising more, taking more walks, et cetera. You know, the psychology of summer. There's scientific reasons why we love summer because again we're exposed to the sunlight, which creates more vitamin D, which increases serotonin. And as human beings, we have an intimate human connection to light and warmth. It just overall helps our psyche, makes us feel better, It really does. I mean, think about it. The last time you had a rainy day or a winter day. You know, they call it the blues, the winter blues, the fall blues. I'm sure you've heard that terminology. And some people just get down. But when it's sunny outside, it's kind of hard to be depressed. When it's nice and sunshiny out, the birds are singing, maybe a slight breeze in the air. Longer days definitely affect our energy levels and mood. It's scientifically proven. You can definitely look it up. I can recall one of the reason I'm really fond of summer is. It always reminded me of a time of rejuvenation, of relaxation, especially like when I was in school. Think about this, I want you to think about this, for those of you that are old enough to remember being in school. Is it me or does it seem like summer vacation seemed to leap It lasted forever. And in most parts of the United States, summer is only about two to three maybe two months long, two and a half months, three months tops, But it just seemed like forever, you know, you got out of school. Like where I went to school in the northeastern half of the United States, we got out around the mid mid towards mid towards end of June, and we didn't go back until after Labor Day, the Labor Day holiday here in the United States, which is usually the first week of September. So you had, you know, July and August and then that to half almost two and a half months or so. But it just seemed like a long, long time. And now what I found is I've gotten older, is it's not that long, but there was like it was a freedom you know, is a time of freedom, and it breaks our routine and I recall taking family vacations growing up, my sister, mom, dad and me, going places, you know, for a weekend or a week or ten days. Going swimming at friends' houses who had pools, going to the beach. We were fortunate enough to live near a body of water, we could go to a beach. The cookouts, the family parties, you know, Fourth of July, stuff like that. They're going to the movies, the drive in. Remember the drive in. Some of you are listening out there, going Terry, what the hell's a driving Look it up. They're starting to come back. But they're fun. They're absolutely fun. And many many great, many great memories with summer, a lot of great things, you know, make new friends over summer summer romances. It's phenomenal. Think about your best summer memories. Did you have a lot of them growing up? Do you make new summer memories with your family now or friends and loved ones. It's definitely a time for rejuvenation. We're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back after this on the Witte's Thoughts podcast. Wearing his sunglasses and doors just because he wants to. Let's get back to the program. Here's your host, Terry Weiss. Hey everybody, welcome back to the podcast. Welcome to Waite Thoughts. And on this episode of the Wite Thoughts Podcast, we're talking about summer. Man. That's why I'm wearing the shades in the studio today. We're digging it. We're talking about summer. Baby, nice warm temperatures, Girls in their bikinis, guys in their swim drunks, just relax and hanging out doing what we do and just rolling on along and enjoying the wonderfulness of being alive. Thanks for joining me today on the White Thoughts Podcast. So let's get back into it. Now. Let's talk about right now, some ways that we can keep summer alive year round. Okay, maintaining a summer state of mind throughout the year. Here's an idea. Bring some elements of nature indoors, such as plants or flowers. Now, some people say, well, Terry, you know, crying aloud, I could kill a glass of water. I'm not a plant person. Well, there's lots of plants out there that you can have that are very easy to maintain. They only need watering every few days or so and minimal sunlight just to get some fresh stuff. Into the house some flowers. Every once in a while, get yourself a fresh bouquet of flowers. Put it on a you know, a coffee table, or maybe in a den, or you know, in the kitchen, on the kitchen counter or something. It's a nice way to bring a little bit of the outdoors indoors. Another thing we can do is we can schedule many escapes or staycations. You know, you don't have to be a working machine, my friends. Take some personal time for you. I mean, there's no prize for working yourself to death. There's no prize except an early death. Just to remember, you are not your job. You are you, You are your life. A job is not your life. A job is a means to an ends. Now, you can enjoy your job, nothing wrong with that. You can be dedicated to your job and be passionate about it. But remember, if I can impress anything upon you, a job is not your life. And I have known way too many people personally in my life would literally work themselves till they die and worried about a job, and worried about money, and worried about I know, you gotta have money to live, and money is a means to an end. It's all about balance, my friends. It's all about balance. Okay, take a few days off, take some me days, take a long weekend. If you have weekends off, add an extra day on the front and back end. Maybe take that Friday and Monday off and have a nice four day weekend and enjoy yourself. Relax, whether it's having a cup of tea, dinner with friends, you just time you and the wife away, or you wife and the kids away, or even yourself just chilling. You have to do that every once in a while, take those mini escapes. The other thing you can do is have a nice summer playlist that you can curate and play in the car year round, even in the middle of a blizzard driving to work or something. Turn on the summer tunes. It'll definitely shift your focus in your mindset and bring you back to that summer state of mind and get those endorphins going and those good vibes going in your body. You can even seek out something called light therapy they have nowadays during the darker months. Seriously, it's safe as far as what I've been able to research. Look it up online. Light therapy. It's safe, it's effective, and it's been it's been shown and a lot of studies that I've encountered from various websites, not just one. You know me, I don't take one somebody, well, I don't take one sources word for it. I have to have a couple three things here. It's been known to have definitely have medicinal health benefits and psychological benefits. So let's let's do this. I encourage you to intentionally create small moments of joy and warmth your life, no matter what the season. Seriously, because what we can do is by doing things like this and enjoying the summer. Now we're in the midst of the summer here in the northeastern half of the United States of America. Enjoy the days of summer, good, bad and indifferent, even if it's sitting on your porch, your patio, your stoop, backsteps, front steps, sitting on the bumper of your car, to going to a park. I don't think we mentioned that earlier. Spend some time, a little time outdoors and enjoy yourself, enjoy those around you, Enjoy your life, my friends, because that is what it is all about. At the end of the day. Just remember, keep summer with you year round and it'll help you year round. Hey, thanks for listening to the program. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there. And remember to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you, the person looking back at you in the mirror every morning. Remember to be kind to yourself, be kind to others. If you want to tweet at me on Twitter, it's at Terry Weiss. Stop by the website Wis's Thoughts dot com just to make sure you spell my name right.
