All right, great, hope you're having a great day. I hope everything is going well. I hope everyone is happy and healthy. We are fully in the throws of spring, and today on the program Oh Pray Tell, what are you going to talk about? Well, today we're talking about a transformation that goes way beyond scrubbing behind the fridge. We're talking about spring cleaning your life. That's right, spring cleaning your soul and your sock drawer. Now, o panic, I'm not here to tell you to throw away everything that you own. It doesn't spark joy. Although, let's be real, that itchy sweater from your aunt, yeah it probably can go. Now we're diving into how to declutter your physical space, your digital world, and most importantly, your headspace. Is seriously dial down the stress, because, let's face it, I mean we're in stressful times. I mean there's always stress around us. There always is. We don't need any more, right, you know, you gotta pay the bills, you gotta deal with the kids, you gotta deal with friends, neighbors, family, what have you. There's just everyday things, you know, and there's good stress and bad stress. However, however, we're going to talk today about how to seriously dial down the stress. Grab a lemon scented water and let's get into it. How's that sound Okay, let's do it now. First up, let's tackle the physical. Our environments are basically external mirrors of our internal state. I mean that's been proven study after study after study. If your desk looks like a paper cyclone hit it, your brain is probably feeling that. World Win two. Let's be honest with ourselves. So let's let's try this. Let's try the one bag challenge. I like to call this. Okay, here's my first wife's tip, the one bag challenge. Now, don't try to do the whole house in a weekend. It's only gonna end in catastrophe and stress you out. You'll end up sitting in a pile of nostalgia, crying over old concert tickets and photographs and this and that. Instead, grab one bag, just one, and fill it with things to donate. Now, whether it's clothes you haven't worn since twenty nineteen, for those kitchen gadgets, you know, those kitchen gadgets. You know, I'm guilt of this. I'm guilty of the clothes and the kitchen gadgets. According to missus w those kitchen gadgets you thought you'd use spoiler alert, you're never making your own pasta. Okay, And that's all right, that's all right. You know we all get those whims. Believe me, I've gone through it myself. Get them out. That instant lightness you feel, that's your stress levels dropping, Yeah, that's right. I mean, I I can't tell you how many times I usually go through my closet at least twice a year. I buy shirts and T shirts and these nostalgia you know these uh what do they call them. I don't know if they're nostalgia T shirts or you know, some witty sayings and stuff on them. And then I, you know, at the time it seems like a good purchase. My wife looks at me and going, yeah, war At one time in the past year, I'm like, right, you know, like, you know, remember the shirts I'm with stupid and they have the arrow and then you get the matching one for your better half that says stupid or vice versa. So if you can do that, you know, go through your clothes, don't eat them. I mean, obviously, if they're all ragtag and they're all garbage, you know, we'll ditch them. But do that, and do that with your kitchen, gadgets and things that, you know, just things declutter a little bit. Again. You don't have to throw away everything. Just declutter. Now, let's talk about the second item, the second to glowing rectangle that is in your pocket. We're gonna call this the digital detox. Yeah, that glowing rectangle in your pocket. Your digital life needs a scrub too. Now. I know that I can't live without Facebook, I can't live without Instagram or TikTok or you know my friends. And I'm not standing on a podium and preaching at you. I am just as guilty, just as guilty as the next person. And I have to check myself many, many a time throughout the month. We're addicted. How many unread emails are currently mocking you? How many apps do you have that just send you annoying notifications about things you really don't care about? Think about that. How many newsletters did you sign up for and say, yeah, that be great? And then you're like eh, and they just keep flooding your inbox. Well, this week, I want you to go on and unfollow Safari. Okay, if an account doesn't make you feel inspired, informed, or at least chuckle, hit that button. That's right. Your feed should be a source of peace, not a comparison trap. And while you're at it, while you're at it, clear those screenshots of things you'll never actually buy, your phone storage and your sanity, well, thank you, Okay, I mean it. You might even want to consider a social media vacation. I'm getting ready to take one here shortly. We talked about it on past episodes of the podcast, Take a break from social media. Social media vacation, because, man, I'll tell you some of the things I've seen on social media lately. Holy macaroni and cheese. These people are really rage posting lately. Of all the craziness going on in the world, I got news for you. It just seems like it keeps ramping up and up and up and up. And you know what, not everyone needs your opinion. Not everyone cares. In fact, most people don't care about your opinion, mine included. You don't have to comment on everything you see. You don't have to say something every single time. Not every comment deserves a response. My wife loves to tell me, Harry. She says, not every comment deserves your response, or any response. You can just sit there. You can look at it and take your finger and scroll on right and scroll on, scroll on down the highway. That's true, and that's something I'll be honest, I am still working on because I'm a passionate person. I'm an artist. I'm a passionate person, and I feel like I've just got Oh, I just gotta say something. How dare you say that about that person? Or how dare you do this? Or why won't you let this person do this? Or why won't you let this you know event happen, things like eh, not everything needs your commentary. So again, go in and unfollow Safari you again. I'll repeat it. If an account doesn't make you feel inspired, informed, or at least chuckle, hit that unsubscribe button. Unfollow your feed should be a source of peace, not a comparison trap. If you're just getting notifications from people you're following, or groups you're following, or you know, feeds, your Twitter feeds you're following, excuse me, x feeds. I still say Twitter, I don't know, it's how many years now, elon. But if that stuff enrages you or gets you ticked off, eh, dump it. Man. I'm not saying put bury your head in the sand and be an Ostrich and say, oh my god, there's everything is hunky. No, but you don't have to go hunting down the negativity. There's so much negativity out there. There's an unconfirmed study that says basically, eighty five percent of the things on the Internet are negative in one form or another. Eighty five percent, eighty five percent of information on the Internet when it comes to news and social information is negative. And again that's not a scientific study, just an unconfirmed survey. So consider maybe just doing the unfollow Safari and taking a social media vacation. You definitely are going to be less stressed. And again I've talked about this on past episodes of the podcast. I'm getting ready to do another media social media vacation for a week, and you will be your mind, your overall well being. You won't believe the benefits. It'll take some getting used to, but it can be done. It can be done. Are you looking for a simple way to level up your focus and energy. Well, you know, on this podcast, I talk a lot about health and vitality. That's why I'm excited to share some information about empower Plus. Hey, everybody, welcome back to the podcast. Welcome to Weyelots. I'm Terry Weiss, your host, and thanks for sticking around. I don't know, mister producer extraordinary. I think maybe spring fever. I don't know, but I hope all are doing well that are listening to the program today. And hey, if you're enjoying the podcast, leave us a positive rating and review. Willya share us with your friends, tell your family, tell your pets, tell your neighbors about wastelots. Today on the program, we are talking about spring cleaning, your soul and your sock drawer. That's right, we talked about the one time bag challenge. We talked on the first half of the program here. The digital detox was the last thing we were talking about before we took a little time out there. And it's good. These are things see in today's fast paced world. You know, let me back up. I'm sure back in the days of our ancestors, back in the seventeen hundreds and eighteen hundreds and even in the nineteen hundreds, they had their set of stress, but mainly their stress was okay about survival. Hey, you know, we got to go hunting to get food. We got to make sure we got enough wood to stay warm. We got to make sure the shelter, you know, our home is good. You know, back in the early days seventeen eight hundredeen hundreds and stuff like that. They had to worry about maybe animals or you know, people coming to take theirs. I get that there was a whole different set of stress. But here's the thing, and I want you to ponder this for a moment as we get ready to talk about the next way to do some spring cleaning for your soul and your sock drawer. That was immediate survival. That was what they call the fight or flight mechanism. Now think about this just for a second, okay, And I don't want to get too in depth on this. This is def finitely a topic for another show, another episode of the podcast. But I thought about it while we were on break back. Then the stress was meeting the necessities we got to get food, shelter, and the safety from you know, outside individuals that may want to do us harm and take our stuff and belongings and do harm to us, or you know, animal attacks, what have you. But fast forward to today's modern living, I would say a good majority of us don't have to worry about housing and homes and you know, our bellies are full, we've got clean drinking water, and you know a good majority of us here, especially in the United States of America and other civilized nations around the world. We've got clean food and clean water for the most part. Some consperiously, theorist, some regular folks. Whatever you may want to disagree with that, I get it. You know, there's some chemicals and stuff putting food that corporations try to get away with. There's been numerous studies. But on the on the whole, here, on the average, we have safe shelter, we have safety, we have you know, we don't have to worry about gangs of people coming to our town or city. And you know, for the most part, I know, I know some of you out there are taking your it, you know, invading us per se. But yet how many of us And again I'm not trying please let me preface this by a disclaimer. I am not trying to discredit, put down, or otherwise disparage anyone who maybe having some mental health challenges. But think about this. How many people are on antidepressants, anxiety medication, mood inhibitors because they're just so stressed. I mean, some of them have you know, chemical imbalances. I get that, but how many folks are just on drugs for things that you know, sixty years ago, fifty years ago, people would shake their head and go, what you're taking a pill for what? You know? Think about that? And I know some of that is Big Farmer too. I'm not one hundred percent fan of Big Farmer, don't get me wrong, But just think about that for a second. Back in days of yours, they say that the stuff wasn't really available anyhow, Let's talk about the next thing here on my itinerary hare as. We're talking about ways to declutter your soul and your sock drawer in this episode of White's Thoughts, the mental declutter. Yeah, this is the big one, and finally your mental space. We all carry mental clutter, those nagging to dos, the old grudges and worries about things that haven't even happened yet. And believe me, I have challenges with all three of those. Okay, I guess that some of these episodes of the podcast, I think I do more for me than you. But I'm right there, I'm with you. We're side by side. Here's a little secret for reducing mental stress. Are you ready? You're pulling a little closeer. I'm gonna tell you a little secret for reducing mental stress. The brain dump Yeah, every night before bed, write down everything that's bouncing around in your head. Yeah, do that. Getting it on paper tells your brain. It doesn't have to work overtime to remember it all while you're trying to sleep. I've tried this. It works. I was like, ah, that's a bunch of fooie. But I did it, and I would say probably the second or third time doing it. The third night, it actually works. Man. It's like clearing the cash on your computer, but for your soul. I was just I couldn't believe it. And I heard about this. I think I found it somewhere scrolling around on the internet, you know, maybe on a YouTube short or something, and they said just try this because they were talking about people who had sleep disturbances and people that are stressed out and what have you. And I was like, holy guacamole, this actually works. I couldn't believe it. I was like, wow, that is cool. I'm like, all right, you know, and I can be very pessimistic and you know, all right, you know what kind of snake oil you're trying to peddle. But it does work. Yeah, just before bed, write down everything that's bouncing around in your head. How many times have you talked to people or again, has it happened to you, because it's happened to me many times throughout my life that you know, you're you're tired. I mean you're dragging your ass and you're like, oh, and I can't stay away. I'm going to bed. You get up there, you get all tucked in, you get your Jamie jams on. Yeah, and you're tucked into bed and you roll over and you're like, oh, I'm gonna get some sleep. And then it starts. It's like ladies and gentlemen start your engines and your brain just over there. What I've got to do this, I gotta do that, or I had this conversation. But look, it's happened to me. I'm sure you've mate possibly had it happen to you, or you know somebody that man, I just couldn't get to sleep. My mind was racing. Well, instead of reaching for that drug, instead of reaching for that extra cocktail, what have you? Write it down? Write down everything that's bouncing around inside your noggin again, Getting it on paper tells your brain that it doesn't have to work over time to remember it all while you're trying to sleep. Give it a shot. Let me know how it works out for you. Again, if you want to contact me. Speaking of letting me know things, it's Terry D E r R Y at Weiss's Thoughts WYC. Just make sure you spell money right Wife's thoughts dot com. I'd be curious to know how it works out for you. It's just like cleaning a computer, but you're cleaning your soul. It's amazing, isn't it. Just little things, little things like that. Remember, spring cleaning isn't about perfection. And I'm just as guilty a lot of us just Oh, I gotta do this and it's got to be perfect. Nah. Nah, just because you know society or they and I use the air quotes as I'm sitting here in the studio, they said it should be perfect. Nah. It isn't about perfection. It's about creating room for what actually matters. It's about making space for rest, creativity, or most importantly, just being Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there, and remember to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you.
