It's just nice and quiet, isn't it? Let me ask you a question. When's the last time, I don't know, you looked up at the night sky and felt a genuine sense of wonder? Not just, oh, That's kind of cool. That's pretty. But I'm talking about that deep, breathtaking feeling of awe. Well, today around our virtual campfire, we're going to reclaim our sense of wonder in learning how to find the extraordinary hidden inside the ordinary. You know, when we were kids... The world wasn't full of magic. I mean, a rain puddle was an ocean or an adventure. A cardboard box was a spaceship. The morning frost on a window was art. I did that lots of times. Draw stuff on the windows when they were fogged up. But as we grow older, routine takes over. And we start moving on autopilot. Commuting along the same roads, drinking the same coffee, answering the same emails. We mistake familiarity for understanding. We think because we know what something is, it's no longer amazing. Cynicism and busyness dull our senses. Isn't that so? I mean, do you find that with you? I do. I found that I was getting so bogged down into the day-to-day routine of everything. Get up. Brush your teeth. Feed the cat. Kiss the wife. Wash up. Go outside. Exercise. Come back in. Cool down. You know, I mean, it was just over and over and over again... Like I said, that autopilot and cynicism takes over. We get so focused on getting through the day that we step right past miracles happening in real time. The warmth of morning sun through a window, the sound of rain on a roof, or the laughter of a loved one or our children. Well, it's time to make a shift. I implore you today, cultivating a beginner's mind. Wonder isn't something you lose. It's something you forgot to practice. Let me say that again. Wonder isn't something that you lose. It's something you forgot to practice. Here's how we wake up our sense of awe. Practice what I like to call, number one, the first time lens. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to pick an ordinary thing today. Anything. A cup of coffee, a song, the smell of pine trees. Any experience. And I want you to experience it as if you've never encountered it before. Now, you're saying, Terry, what do you mean by that? Pay attention to the texture, temperature, the details of everything. Okay? Just one thing. It could be anything. Your drive to work, your drive home from work, you know, your driveway, your yard, whatever. One, just pick one thing. And experience it as if you have never encountered it before. Like it's brand new. And pay attention to every detail. Now, the second thing I want you to do, I want you to trade cynicism for curiosity. When you catch yourself feeling bored or cynical, ask a question instead. How does this work? Or what is the story behind this person's smile? Curiosity opens doors that cynicism closes. Let me say that again. Curiosity opens doors that cynicism closes. Pretty powerful stuff, huh? And number three, slow down for small beauty. Slow down. We're all rushing to the next meeting, rushing to the next practice for our kids, rushing to the next event, rushing to the next break, rushing back from the break, you know, rushing to, you know, get to our vacation, rushing during our vacation, rushing after our vacation, rushing to the next event. Wonder requires presence. You can't feel awe when you're rushing. Pause for 10 seconds when you see a sunset or hear a great melody. Let the beauty land inside you before moving on to the next task. Pretty powerful stuff, huh? I'm going to recap those again. I call this the shift cultivating a beginner's mind. Number one, practice the first-time lens. And again, that's just experiencing something that you've experienced maybe a hundred times before. But doing it from the lens of this is the very first time. And pay attention to those small details. Number two, trade cynicism for curiosity. Ask yourself, why? What's the story? How does this work? And number three, slow down for small wins and moments in life and beauty. Wonder does require presence. Live in the now for a while. Do it each day. Pause for 10 seconds when you see a sunset. Run into a friend. Think about a memory. Just 10 seconds at a time. Let the beauty land inside you before moving to the next. task. Pretty powerful stuff, huh? As our campfire embers settle into the dark night, remember this. The world hasn't lost its magic. It's just that all of us have forgotten... how to look. How about this challenge? Tonight, step outside and look at the night sky. Feel the cool air on your skin and remember how incredible it is to simply be alive right now. Thanks so much for joining me around our virtual campfire and wise thoughts. If this episode brought a spark of awe back into your day, pass it along to a friend. Until next week, Keep your eyes open in wonder. Stay curious. And keep your fire burning. Hey, thanks for listening to the program today. I truly appreciate each and every one of you out there. And remember, to see a change in the world, you have to be the change in the world you want to see. It all starts with you. The person looking back at you in the mirror every morning.
